Problems with digital display on automatic VW Polo

Can I recommend ECU Testing in Heanor........if you check out the common faults on the generation 4 Polo you'll find yours has been seen before! John :)

Got caught out with limited functions of spare key

I have fitted a new cap solenoid to a diesel Astra - about £25 I think. They do seem to collect a fair bit of crud in that area - aided by some diesel splash, no doubt. John :)

    Honda 4 Stroke

I can fully second that one......although some machinery- especially the expensive makes - can handle E10, many certainly can not. I'm finding many problems with fuel pipes, diaphragms, petrol taps and filters degrading very quickly indeed. John :)

    2017 Ford Fiesta USB Port

It looks like the top of the console may come apart.......but the chances of damage / screwdriver prise marks or whatever are very high. John :)

    Honda 4 Stroke

It does look like a Walbro derivative - there are so many! Just one point......the plastic quadrant that is turned when you squeeze the throttle - that actually lifts a needle out of the jet a fraction, and sometimes it can be adjusted by a tiny allen key on the top. Anticlockwise to richen...

    Honda 4 Stroke

I guess you have the GX25 engine, with the Walbro carburettor, primer bulb on the bottom? Ideally the rubber diaphragms need replacing too, but often enough a replacement carb from Amazon or whatever is the cheaper option. John :)

    Honda 4 Stroke

Have you tried just giving it a little bit of choke, just to see if it prevents the engine failing? These things run chronically weak which is why it can behave when fully hot - generally with some power reduction though. John :)

Parking an automatic on a hill.

Bring the car to a halt with the footbrake Engage P, which locks up the transmission Apply the handbrake, if it doesn’t come on automatically. Start the engine Engage D, keeping the footbrake on Handbrake off, and drive away. John

    Exhaust clamps

I can’t say I’ve ever had an exhaust clamp come loose so I guess the washers aren’t needed anyway. John

    Air compressor replacement Air Tank

What you propose will work - in theory anyway - but your small compressor will be working over time to fill a larger receiver. Air tools also use one hell of a CFM under use, so the receiver will quickly empty and you're back to square one. I've used a gas bottle before (not sure about any...

    Mountfield SP454 running issues

Another triumph! Seems to blow a little smoke though - maybe the oil level is a little high? John :)

    Mountfield SP454 running issues

I’ve never removed the brass jet before, or altered the plastic insert! I can’t access your vid just now, so how is the engine running? John

    Mountfield SP454 running issues

Yes it does, and there is a drilling connection from one of the small holes shown in picture 1. Squirt plenty of carb cleaner down there! John

    Mountfield SP454 running issues

Can you see in picture 2, the round plastic tick over screw? Below that is the plastic slow running jet which can be prised out for a clean, after the tickover screw is removed. Plenty of carb cleaner needed here, compressed air helps too! John

    Damp courses of bricks

Avoid any water splash from the ground, including leaking gutters, downcomers or whatever, then check out Permagard products for treatment. I was getting a similar issue and the bricks were starting to spall, but a Permagard brush on cream sorted it completely. Naturally enough, it has no effect...

    Mountfield SP454 running issues

The primer bulb on these shoots a momentary shot of air into the float chamber.......this allows a jet of fuel to shoot out of the jet and into the carb venturi - just to give a temporary fuel enrichment . Just like a choke really! Excess priming causes fuel to leak out. These engines do like a...

    Thoughts on bodywork repair needed?

Through the insurers this will be quite expensive.....could you pay cash? Some body shops are insurers only, happily I have a local firm that likes notes. John

Is revealing a cars service history a security risk.

So long as there are no personal details I can't see a problem with that. I suspect there isn't any service history! You can, of course, get the MOT history from the registration number. John :)
