    (Something) tripped after replacing socket

First thing is put this in the correct sub-forum- Electrics UK. Second thing, your paragraph about power to all sockets but you can't flip the fuse back makes no sense. Third thing - 'fuse'? Nah. Is it an MCB that has failed (small lever with a current rating on it) or an RCD/RCBO ( similar...

    Frost Protection of Heating System

There's at least one- its covered in mats, you can ski down it :)

Nest heat link dead, how to getting heating on?

If you have a multimeter and the install drawing for the Nest hub that would be a start. There'll be an L and N supply to the thing which should be at 240 volts- this voltage can kill you so be careful waving a meter at it. Ideally don't do it on your own (so if you f*ck up your assistant can...

Nest heat link dead, how to getting heating on?

Not really easy to see whats connected to what there. If you have the installation instructions for the Nest you should be able to work out what to link to give you heat and hot water- but would be fairly manual for the heating (the dhw should look after itself) EDIT I'm assuming you checked...

Radiator comes on with hot water

The only issue (might be a bonus tbh) is that the downstairs loo will be heated whenever any other part of the system calls for heat. Which will have a cost to it- if that room is well insulated and the trv is working then it might be insignificant. If you can be bothered, take a daily reading...

Radiator comes on with hot water

Wonder if they've been lazy and bad and used that rad instead of fitting a bypass (assuming that boiler needs one?) . Does the rad have a TRV on?

    Frost Protection of Heating System

That must either be a mansion or have no insulation, no double glazing, no carpets or maybe its on the top of a hill in Scotland? My worst heating days last winter (so 22-23) were £5 a day to keep a 4 bed at 19 deg, part insulated and part not...

    RCD on bathroom circuit

Yeah this one. If your tenant manages to injure themselves on your property the easy way to deflect the ambulance chasing claim firms is to have all the risk reduction installed.

RCD tripped but resetting causes power to go off in entire house

Very likely you have a loose connection or 2 in the CU. Needs investigation soonish, could end up with arcing issues.

CH not firing after rad bleed

When you run CH only you say the pump starts and then the motorised valve opens- is that what you mean? Do you have 2 or more 2 port valves or a 3 port valve? Is there a wiring centre somewhere - if yes, have you investigated it? (some are just terminal block, some are full of relays). EDIT The...

Hole in cast iron pipe for condensate pipe

JB Weld- awesome stuff. Latest fix with the stuff involves 3000 psi on a Citroen hydraulic suspension circuit- working a treat :) . Araldite would probably work as well on cast SVP

Where should a NRV go? Combi starts when cold taps run.

You might want to look at an expansion vessel on the DHW if you are fitting a non return valve on the supply. Better by far if you can track down and disconnect the inevitable dead legs full of air typical of most gravity to combi conversions.

    Combi boiler with cylinder

The only real beartrap with having a cylinder driven by a combi boiler is the flow temperature on the heating circuit. Modern boilers/systems are configured for a flow temp of 50-55 deg C (so condensation occurs at the boiler to achieve the impressive efficiency ratings). Your cylinder really...

    Frost Protection of Heating System

You need to risk-assess the whole situation. You may find that your insurance is invalid if someone doesn't drop in every 4 weeks or so. If its an older house (thinking solid walls, limited insulation) you may get problems with damp and mould if you leave it unheated for prolonged periods (even...

    Kilowattage question. Help please.

In terms of fire risk I would expect BCOs to be a bit paranoid given the ongoing revelations from the Grenfell enquiry. Plus the 3 year gap between approval and installation won't be helping your case (yes I know there was a small global pandemic going on but don't expect that to be a useful...

Gap between wall and new ceiling

Yes. 15mm is a bit much for filler if there's no wall behind but you'd get away with using plaster or board adhesive in those gaps, then tape and joint as normal

Gap between wall and new ceiling

150mm isn't a gap, its a gaping hole! The pic shows gaps in the 5 to 15mm range- filler or spare plaster would do for them, just wodge it in.

Can a shower pump work on any gravity-fed system?

Your replies implied more than 1 shower? If mains dynamic pressure/flow is good you could look at unvented cylinders with yr new system or heat only boiler. EDIT 2 simultaneous showers on a combi will be unimpressive. Regarding efficiency, the cost of new boiler plus install will pay for many...

Worcester Boiler not firing after a drain and refill. Single pipe system.

Black water isn't good but not on its own a disaster - draining down and refilling has loosened up sludge in the radiators. First job- go up in the loft and check the f & e tank isn't full of dust and rubbish- if it is it needs cleaning out. Next job is to see if you still have circulation on...

Worcester Boiler not firing after a drain and refill. Single pipe system.

Yes that one (probably one the other side as well). Check the Magnaclean valves as well, mebbe worth pulling it out & seeing if it is full of carp. Is this pressurised or open vent?- if the latter your clown may have dragged rubbish down from the f & e tank .
