    BBCi - so dark?

I've had this before, on BBCi, so not a one off.... I missed the start of 'The war between land and the sea', and so thought to take a look on BBCi, except the picture is unwatchable, it's so very dark. I know our TV is a bit lacking in brightness, but it's set up at maximum. Yet, watching via...

    What is this roof material

Copper, exposed to the atmosphere, goes a very distinguished bright green colour, unlike like your photo. Try scratching a small part of the surface, of your material, it should then be more obvious what the material actually is, from the exposed colour.

    Lights flickering

That depends on the reason for the flickering - if it's just due to a poor connection somewhere, then that is reasonably safe. If the flickering is due to a short somewhere, then that could potentially be serious. With the lights on, if you listen carefully, with them flickering, you may be able...

wiring up a lighting photocell without a neutral wire?

The switch, obviously, was in series with the load/lamp, so there was a voltage across the switch, when off. That voltage was stepped down, to charge the battery, when the lamp was switched off, to power the electronics when the light was on.

wiring up a lighting photocell without a neutral wire?

Unless the PIR is designed to work with no neutral, it cannot be done.. Those things which manage to work with no neutral, do so by charging a little internal battery, to run things. The battery is charged, when the switch is off, by passing a small current through the lamp circuit. They tend...

    New c u cable extension

I cannot see how lagging/leading might cause a trip, unless combined with some other fault on the immersion heater. Possibly, the neutral breaking leading, combined with some leakage to earth, in the element, close to the neutral end of the element?

What have you been doing today?

You got a face to face, just like that? Here, the F2F are very difficult to get, you are lucky to get, a near useless, phone appointment. The surgery I've moved to, at least is much better for my monthly blood appointments, ready for my hospital appointment - I can arrange them online, a month...

    Car battery jump starter recommendations

Most of the instructions for their use, seem to say to limit cranking to 30, or 60 seconds. Even 30 seconds cranking an engine over, with no start, is a very long time to be cranking it. The only time I have ever done that, for that long - was very many decades ago, when I have broken down in...

    What have you bought today?

Ordered a new mattress, from Argos, scheduled for delivery by the 5th, the tracking shows it hasn't even been collected yet by XDP, from the factory. I rescheduled, it for the 6th, waited in all day for nothing. How do they get away with that?

    Car battery jump starter recommendations

I managed to completely flatten my car's Varta, a couple of years ago, but managed to mostly recover it back then - as obvious, checking it's fully charged voltage, and my battery capacity gadget, showed it at 75%. Since when, it's condition has almost improved to close to 100%, but it concerned...

What sort of damp is this?

The breathing in, during winter, it's the moisture laden exhaling, which does the damage.

    Pub Prices

That is what I thought, but none of the places I sometimes go in, display one. The have a food menu card, and a special drinks card, on the tables, but nowhere give any clue as to the cost of the various beers, ales, and shorts.

They used to have on display, a price list, of all the drinks, behind the bar.

Quinetic light switch - sticky pads in bathroom?

How about a having it inhibited by a time switch, or a smart plug/control, so it is not able to trigger via the PIR, during the night? Pull cord switches are the work of the devil - mounted on the ceiling, so noisy, difficult to find the cord in the dark, unreliable, they often fail, and you...

How to Clean Up This Pine

You just lucky, the entire cupboard is not thick with mould. An airing cupboard is not intended for drying clothes in, the clue is in the name - 'airing', keeping clothes warm, dry, and well aired, ready for use.
