If its original then highly unlikely there will be asbestos in it, please don't believe there was never asbestos used in plaster as it did get used but at a later period than the 1930s.
But like I said before if your really worried then have it tested.
What's wrong with asking? I can clearly see the backing is plaster I'm pretty sure its the face of it that the OP is questioning, as I'm not there to see it then I again just presume its lime but not going to guarantee it.
As others have said, tile first then fix the door, I like to use masking tape over the marked drilling points to stop the drill bit slipping.
I also only silicone the outside of the frame, so any water that finds its way in can easily drain out into the tray

You could use a steamer to soften the adhesive and scrap off, sand away any remaining little bits then make good with filler.
Be carful when working above the tiles as you don't want loads of water running down the back of them.

The only cupboard paint I have ever used was international melamine and MDF paint. It was very good stuff, had the kitchen for 5 years after with no chips to the paint work.

Hmmmm is it on a cold exterior wall? That's the only other thing I could think of, cold wall equals moisture being attracted to it.
I would wipe away the paint with a damp cloth and try again personally, try and keep the area at a constant temperature for good measure.

Also make sure that every row of paint applied get blended in with the previous row.
Not sure how bright your lighting is but I find sometimes I have to turn these lights off when painting a ceiling as they can be blinding, they may get to hot a melt a bag, you could remove the part that actually holds the bulb and just leave the bulb hanging from the lamp holder.
