I am assuming you have a stud wall as you mentioned cutting a joist, but possibly mean a timber stud, but it is not that big a job and could easily be formed in a few hours and tiling it would not add that long to the timeframe either. The usual way to do it would be to chock 3 x 2 or 4 x 2 timbers vertically into the web of the RSJ so they are a tight fit and sit flush with the face of the steel. That way you don't need to hang timbers from the ceiling as your 3 x 2 ceiling frame can fix to the chocks in the RSJ.

Yes that would be the way to do it and if you clamp or pin a straight timber onto a length of skirting you can saw down the edge of it and keep a nice straight line.

I have had one of these for a number of years now and can say they are very solid and as they retract are safe and easy to store. I give the runner a spray of WD40 every so often and it works a treat. Tough and well built and i will buy another if this ever vanishes...

I would say the OB1 is a very capable adhesive and you can stick mirrors to the wall with no additional fixings thanks to the very high initial grab strength of it. Both products are very similar in performance but well worth you reading a few reviews on them for a wider opinion.
