    Bathroom extract fan

Hi all And thanks for the replies. It does make sense to install an isolation switch although this would be easier to wire in a new install rather than to retrofit. TTC, do you get triple pole isolating switches? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks to all again for quick response.

    Bathroom extract fan

Hi Firstly, I'm a spark to trade but been away from the contracting for over 30 years. I have been asked to replace an extract fan in the bathroom. The home owner tells me that you must now have a spur unit fused at 3amp for the fan as this is now a regulation. The current fan (to be...

Lighting issue: At the end of my tether

Kingtubby Firstly; each ceiling rose should have 3 x T&E cables except the last in circuit which will have 2. Correctly terminated ceiling rose will have 3 reds in one terminal (Live joint) 2 blacks (Neutral joint) & 1 black (Switch wire joint). The lamp is connected across the switch wire &...

Lighting issue: At the end of my tether

Kingtubby Without seeing it it sounds as though you have mixed up a swich wire & neutral(s). This can result in some of your lights being connected in series - the fact you measure 60V with the lamp in circuit suggests that 4 lights are in series (4 x 60V = 240V). Do you have any other dim...

    Sapele door care

Breezer Ther just sort of mahogany veneer doors that are hollow and cheap to buy. I paid about £20 each at a builder's merchant but you can buy them for less at B&Q and other DIY stores. I'm lead to believe the DIY shops sell a cheaper made doors but I'm not sure. Any views? Steveo

Thanks for the speedy response. Can you explain further - how is the resistance between the live and earth measured? Should this resistance not be at infinity or very close to it? Thanks in advance.

    electric shower getting no power

Tsquealer Check the fuse/MCB at CU for shower, should be 30 or 40/45amp. If Ok check voltage present at pull cord at both set of terminals with switch on, ie at the mains side and the load side to prove the pull cord is switching on OK. Check also screw terminals are tight as this could cause...

one-gang, one-way light switch fed by 2 cables

One red & black is the live and neutral. The 2nd red and black is switch wire and neutral. The two blacks joined together is the neutral joint. You could extend both cables to new switch position and just put a blanking plate in place of the original switch. Maboza

Socket suddenly stopped working - any ideas

Golfer1 Firstly, plug in a device you know works (eg table lamp) into both sockets. If sockets still dead - check for tripped MCB at CU and reset if necessary. It might be worth checking if these sockets were originally spur units fed from an Off Peak CU and the time switch has turned them...
