    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

It's me being a donkey! It does fit, I just wasn't pushing the inner metal tube through properly . I'm doing the proper (not old test cable) cable tomorrow. I bought these connectors off eBay, they are the same as currently on the cable. Cheers for your help.

    Cavity tray over continuous DPC

Hi noseall I think i can still make that cut as i've left the dpc to run right into both corners. Where the two meet in the lowest corner of the join will be where any water is going to get through I suppose as this can't be tucked under the external brick (if i understand you right). Is the...

    Cavity tray over continuous DPC

Hi Gas DPC across outer brick, bridge cavity, over inner leaf (all level) then down 150mm, and 150mm on to block and beam floor for attachment to gas membrane later. There is a patio door going in too so the level DPC makes more sense doesn't it?

    Cavity tray over continuous DPC

Hi I have a 600mm gas DPC bridging the cavity and I need to install a cavity tray with this. I started to use some polythene DPC as the cavity tray and mortared 20-30mm of this DPC cavity tray on top of the gas DPC of the external leaf. I'm worried in case any water seeps under the cavity...

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

I have an old Virgin Media cable to test my F connector skills on (from last house). I have tried to install an F connector on it today and it doesn't fit! The cable appears too thin and the connector just slides right off after being compressed, does anyone know if there a different, more...

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

I agree your posts have been intended to be helpful, thank you for your input. Perhaps i've taken your replies the wrong way, but it sounded like you were angry at me for wanting to move the cable! Obviously i didn't realise it could cause a problem as suggested, although as i've mentioned in...

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

No, not so much that! I find it unlikely to cause a major problem changing one connector but if there is a way to do the job as Virgin would do it, I’d prefer to do that. Cheers for the link.

    What connectors should I use?

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

It already terminates into a plastic virgin media box which i'll move so it'll look finished! :) Cheers

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

Hi Yes they look similar. I didn't know it was just a coaxial cable... feel rather daft now! I always assumed Virgin Media cables were fairly specific and were crimped with a tool as they feel robust. I think i'll just get the twist on type then. Very useful, thank you.

    Virgin Media cable crimp tool

Hi I need to move a virgin media cable about 2m across the wall, luckily the direction where the cable length allows! The current hole is to small to pull the cable out with the end on, so I’ll need to cut the cable, drill another hole, insert through and crimp a new end on. Does anyone know...

50mm Floor Build Up in Conservatory - Floating Insulation Boards?

What is the height difference from your conservatory to the rest of the house floor level, 50mm? You mentioned you are running UFH across the whole ground floor, so is that floor raising too?

50mm Floor Build Up in Conservatory - Floating Insulation Boards?

Was there no insulation laid under the concrete already?

50mm Floor Build Up in Conservatory - Floating Insulation Boards?

I'm not a builder but that sounds back to front to me. On a normal floor you'd insulate, then underfloor heating, then screed. Not sure why you're thinking of using a self levelling compound below the insulation, is it that bad? Maybe i've misunderstood! I reckon 25mm screed on top of...

    Thermostone vs Breeze Block

I don't think that would be a viable reason to suggest "breeze" blocks on a two storey extension; never heard that before! The thermos tone (mean thermalite?) typically offers better thermal capacity; so it will likely keep your extension warmer than using concrete blocks. These are used in...

    Block work doesn’t align

Yeah i'm fine with the wall not being level on the inside, because as you say, that can be hidden with plasterboard or something. It just feels somewhat of a bodge to not have the walls in a straight line . So long as it's acceptable and won't affect the strength of the wall, then i'll do...

    Block work doesn’t align

Thanks for replying, although, the BCO has already said those bricks should be taken out. There was an extension here previously which was just butted up (no ties or anything) to the wall. I was wondering if offsetting the new blocks to the existing by 25mm would cause an issue. I'm not sure...

    Block work doesn’t align

Hi I’ve realised an issue with my extension and hoping for a little input. The building officer has said to cut the brickwork vertically to open the cavity up and I can then tooth the brickwork. The bricks under the lintel (pictured) will then be removed and blockwork rebuilt under it and...
