    Electrician for new extension

He has sent his quote/invoice and it has his home address on, 5 mins up the road from me too. I asked him specifically about this as it's important he is approved for building regs. I'm in Urmston, would have rang him if i'd posted this sooner! I did ring another guy based in Urmston asking...

    Electrician for new extension

Hi I have been quoted for installing a new consumer unit to existing house and running new circuits to the new extension (ring main, lights, shower and cooker). Installation to include basic sockets, ceiling roses, 3 x outside sensor lights, 2 x smoke alarms and 1 x heat alarm, outside socket...

    DIY Two Storey Extension

I'm hoping to post something more shortly, just been frantically trying to finish the roof so I can get rid of the scaffold (costing me money I haven't got!). Roof on now and scaffold coming down as I type so will get some pics up in next couple of days.

Honestly how difficult can it be......... Rear extension

I would lay them all out dry first to ensure the bond is correct and then i'd start from the corners and work back to the house. You may need to adjust the perp joints slightly or even put a cut or two in.

    Roof abutment soakers and flashing

What width would you make them? It does seem odd to have them above although if they were under, I can't see how they'd work. No, the picture was just to show the type of soaker I was looking to use. Do you mean the flashing in the picture or do you mean the plastic soakers generally?

    Roof abutment soakers and flashing

I think i've figured it out. The hidden soakers are really for plain tiles/slates with plenty of overlap from what i can gather. The Marley Moderns need the flashing over. I think i'll use these, just hope they don't look rubbish! I'm using smooth grey Marley Moderns not the red pictured...

    Roof abutment soakers and flashing

Hi I am using Marley modern concrete tiles and my extension roof abuts the existing house wall so i'll need to install a flashing. Can a hidden soaker be used with a stepped flashing or does the flashing need to go on top of the tiles? I would prefer to use a hidden soaker although if that's...

    Wall plate dpc line

Logically (to me anyway o_O), if the wall plate is installed below the DPC it's susceptible to damp so you'll have to take steps to prevent that. How high above DPC is the existing floor? I'm not an expert on this though, so just offering my opinion.

    Wall plate dpc line

When you say drilling the DPC line, I'd say a wall plate for the joists should be fixed through the brick, not mortar, so your plate will be fixed into the brick above or below the DPC, not through it. One of the more experienced on here may confirm!

    Concrete Block Options - Fibolites?

They should be fine. I'm using 2.9N Celcon Solar blocks on the inner leaf of a two storey extension (the 2.9N good up to 2 storeys). I've found the blocks super absorbent, drawing the moisture from the mortar very quickly, so I'd imagine rendering to such a block would be a PITA.

    Scaffold in the way

I mentioned cutting the poles myself, he was around in 30 minutes and changed the poles! All gone!

    Scaffold in the way

Could do it myself, i'll have to check he's okay with it I suppose. The up pole is still in the way, so the handrail needs removing then that cutting. Glad it's not just me that thinks it's weird! Whose responsibility is it to make sure the scaffold is: a) the correct distance from the...

    Scaffold in the way

Hi I’m just starting to fit my roof/fascias etc and realised the scaffold poles are in the way on the front side of the extension (okay at back). Also the guard rail goes between two rafters. I’ve contacted the scaffold guy who said “I asked you about the fascia’s, the poles will need cutting...

    Restraint strap spacing

Cheers. How about the spacing of the straps, how many straps would you use on the 3400mm run?

    Restraint strap spacing

Hi When installing the metal restraint straps to a gable wall at 2m centres, how is the 2m spacing defined? Do you need to strap a certain distance from the start and finish of the run? So If your rafter length is 3400mm how many straps would you install? a) one in the middle... of the run...

    Bracing on Trusses

Yeah, I was looking at the "narrow fronted roof" as mine is 3.7 front and 5.6 depth. Having seen another diagram it might be for detached roofs. I dunno! Did you cross brace yours? Did you use the splice as suggested in the diagram? I looked but couldn't find a 600mm splice anyway...

    Bracing on Trusses

Oh, that's confusing then, but that would make sense! Feel a bit of div now! :ROFLMAO: I spent ages trying to get those cross members in, thought they were hard to install! Any problem leaving them in, or should I remove them?

    Bracing on Trusses

Oh! When I look at the drawings though, it suggests a cross doesn't it? Is it not needed then?
