Thanks Harry The bonding plaster has come away aswell I have just pulled some off (pic attached) I don't need it to be tidy etc as I'm lining it anyways so would like and try to remedy myself, what bonding plaster would I need hardwood? I'm assuming it's lime atm due to the age of the house Thanks

Thanks for the advice everyone, only reason I would consider digging up is that the floor is a little uneven and damaged and cracked where there was an extension added previously, the floor needs screeding anyways but I'm unsure if you can screed over a cracked up floor? Thanks
