CH flow and return pipe sizes

thanks gas4you - i take it this also applies with a combi (sealed) system that is under higher pressure? or is 15mm sufficient with sealed htg systems? one other question - when a boiler is installed, ie 18 KW, what excatly is this 18KW? is it the power used by the boiler say over an...

CH flow and return pipe sizes

Hi May sound a silly question but should CH flow and return pipes (normal 3 bed semi with fully pumped system) be in 22mm and tee'd off in 15mm only up to the rads to get enough flow rhough to them?

    Boiler won't re-light - has a permanent pilot

excuse my ignorance - but why would it be dangerous if i cleaned a pilot filter ??

    Boiler won't re-light - has a permanent pilot

Why would the pilot have gone out anyway in the first place? i am not sure?

    Boiler won't re-light - has a permanent pilot

ok fair enough i respect your decision as it is gas and a safety issue is here. i do understand about gas a little and would not be in danger but i understand your reasons. so i have a blocked pilot injector / filter probably? i guess it's time for a phone call. is it a long job or can it...

    Boiler won't re-light - has a permanent pilot

For some reason my boiler doesn't re-light (has a permanent pilot light) - now the main cause would be to most people that the thermocouple has worn out/burnt out, as is an old boiler - but when trying to re-light i do not see a spark coming from the electrode. Why is this? Is it the crystals...

    Boiler Drain Off Better??

oh i see, thats why some single radiators on their own drop require their own drain valve too, for future draining! my boiler goes up and then the pipe drops down to feed the donstairs rads again - which has a drain valve installed tee'd off a downstairs radiator. if i drain this syetm it...

    Boiler Drain Off Better??

hat exactly do you mean own drop? sorry for my ignorance here btw. if it doesn't have 1 and it is on its own drop, what will that mean exactly?

Airlock problem and boiler won't light after draining

I had an airlock in my heating pipework before - in my old house. I had to close all the radiator trv or manual valves fully off, set the pump speed to maximum and force the air out one by one. But you have no boiler working, so you may need to try a different method known as backfill...

    Boiler Drain Off Better??

do you mean if the boiler flow pipe runs up through the ceiling it is better... mine does but hasn't got one on it - although the radiator in the front room (same floor as boiler) has one on it - and the pipes obviously come down again through the ceiling to feed the downstairs radiators... is...

    Boiler Drain Off Better??

Have been told today that it is best to have a drain off on the boiler - it helps when draining and refilling ch systems to prevent airlocks? any truth in this or is it just as good as one on a low level radiator? just curious? any experts know about this?

    Thermal store quick question

Thanks for your advice. I won't get one installed now then. (who's bird brain btw)??!! I was thinking, they'd need new wiring up and everything anyway, and I have a curent fully pumped Y plan system, so that would all have needed to be changed anyway. O well... was an idea!

    Thermal store quick question

Thanks for your reply and advice. I believed they were getting popular due to the high pressure hot water, without it being stores like an Unvented cylinder, and thus the reduction in saftey devices required... Are they not worth it then? I was thinking maybe the cold inlet and hot outlet...

    hot water problem

If the header tank was empry (ball valve scaled etc and stuck up) then he wouldnt have any heating either though would he?!

    Thermal store quick question

Quick question: what are the best make of thermal stores to go for (indirect type) but open vented. And are the connections to the flow and return and the hot water and cold connections the same size as a normal hot water cylinder, ie 22mm / (3/4 inch) - or are they larger?? May have...

I think my hot water cylinder outlet is scaled up

Hi everyone: I think the top connection to my hot water cylinder is scaled up or blocked... the hot water only comes out with a dribble (and intermittenetly too at times). The shower is fine (fed from a flange at the side lower down) ... all the other hot water draw offs are blocked. Can...

    3 port valve question

Why do 3 port valves need a neutral wire to the actuator? I understand why an earth is used, as with the honeywell v40437, as it has a metal lid, but why a neutral? just curious!
