    Damp

JohnD, I presume you mean the incoming main when you say buried pipes. I don't know where the toute for that is. ALL pipework is visible/accessable and above ground. Mostly installed by myself. We are not on a meter so I guess no way of checking for leaks before the stopcock. Cheers...

    latex on plywood

I used the slc as I already had it. I primed the plywood with a 1:4 pva to water mix and let it dry. I mixed the slc slight wetter than normal andit used a float to spread and smooth it. It dried with the trowel lines showing. I thought it wouldself level itself flat. I rubbed a house brick...

    latex on plywood

Hi all, I'm going to lay vinyl on my new plywood floor and want to smooth/fill all the screw holes and join. Would it be OK to thinly apply self leveling compound to do this? And is it suitable for 1st floor use due to flexing of the floor? Cheers. nick.

    Shower Pump Problem?

Yes, the hot supply from the cylinder is teed off to the pump. The momentary start up has not happened today! After reading about separate supplies to pumps, I realise that it would be ideal to fit a surrey flange but will I be causing damage if I don't and could the "pulsing pump" have...

    Shower Pump Problem?

Hi, I've fitted a new shower pump today (Stuart Turner 2.5 Positive head). The pump works well with the cheapo shower we have at the moment. The possible problem is that the pump momentarily starts up when a hot tap is turned off elsewhere in the house! Is there a particular...

Fitting new glass to a Velux..

I've not done one for a while but I recall a bit of a mess from the old double sided tape. I think you need to slide a thin bladed knife or spatula between the sash and the glass to break the tape so that you can remove the sealed unit. Hope this helps.

    Cedar wood cladding

Cedar is an extremely lightweight timber, it's naturally weather resistant and as long as your battons are well fixed and sound, you'll have no problems.

    Bow Windows

If you have the aluminium trims screwed to the side of the frames, you offer the "ball" on the side of the frame into the "socket" of the bay pole and when you pull the frames round to the desired angle, they "lock" together by means of the tab on the frame pieces going into the slots on the...

    Radiator F&R Temp Difference.

Thanks for your replies. things have really been hotting up and i've used the feel method. I'll definately turn the kw up on the boiler, although i probably over estimated the rad outputs a little. The boiler is over sized but it's future proofing against my current and future plans. I'll...

    Radiator F&R Temp Difference.

Hi spudkey, I went into d0 and it has a range of 5-30. It was set at 30 and I altered it to 21, I worked out my rad. outputs to approx. 19.5kw. Is this ok? Also, it's a sealed system of 12 rads. I've set the 3 speed pump to max. Would this be optimum? Cheers. Nick.

    Radiator F&R Temp Difference.

Morning all, I've drained and refilled my central heating system and have done a reasonable(imo) job of balancing the system. Other posts have said to check manufacturers recommendations for f&r pipe temps to the rads. I will be using an IR gun. My boiler is a Vaillant ecotec plus 428. Is the...

    dormer bunglow upstairs

charliepowell I know how you feel, I'm in the same boat as you. There is no simple solution I'm afraid There are several areas that need to be looked at. Dormer roofs- I'm assuming flat. These will prob have a 3" void with little or no insulation. You can usually gain...

firing bowl shaped joists for new wide plank oak floor.

You could bolt new timbers to the sides of the old, flush with each end and the middles will take care of themselves. You wouldn't need to use the original joist size timber, 4" or 6"x2" would be fine. hope this helps.

How to treat oak veneer doors

Make sure you use an oil based stain as the water based stains/finishes could lift the veneer. I unfortunately speak from experience. The doors probably had a label attached that will give you guidance or point you in the right direction. hope this helps.[/u]
