Damp issue in our old kitchen

Thanks for your response Chris. The issue never seems to get any worse or any better. I must admit Im a bit baffled... The sticks are like a clear mastic which has set in the brick. God knows how long its been there, we have lived here for 12 years and it was done before we moved in..

Damp issue in our old kitchen

Hi there. I am having an issue in our kitchen of which we have lived with for nearly 10 years. We are shortly planning to renovate but I have recently noticed an issue on one of the walls. The wall is the exterior wall. I have noticed a damp area on the paint work which has risen no further...

A little update, I have got my multimeter and have checked continuity across both the upper and lower thermostats, and both are beeping - so im assuming they are ok. I have taken the hose out and looked for any blockages which there aren't. Are there any fuses or other check with my meter I can...

    Bosch Classixx Tumbledryer not heating

Hi there. I have a Bisch Classixx vented tumble dryer that has stopped heating up. In the past I have taken the back off, pressed the red button on the heater to reset it and its worked. This time, the button won't press, which is suggesting to me that it has tripped. Is there a way of...

    Insulation in existing stud walls

Hi there, I have just discovered that the stud walls upstairs in our house have no insulation in them at all. I expected them to considering I had one replaced by a builder some years ago. Is there a way of adding any insulation into the walls now without pulling off the plasterboard? It's...

Boiler not firing up after refill...help please

He did indeed say change it, and that I am doing... I was just asking if it is as 'simple' as in screw the old and re-attach the new..

Boiler not firing up after refill...help please

Sorry to resurrect an old post of mine but it is related. The AAV I mention seems to have given up and started leaking. I have found the part using the part number the831bunny provided. Is it just a simple unbolt old and attach new? Also the new ones appear to be copper but my current old one is...

    TRV puzzling problem

I don't recall reading anything on the valve about changing something to determine direction. It's a Drayton valve that screwfix were giving away with every rad sale.

    TRV puzzling problem

How would I have bodged it Gas2air?? I've not had an issue with the trv's that I've done since, which is why I'm baffled. Phod, I shall give that a go. I have undone the trv valve before and pulled it off the rad and turned it on and water does come out of the valve, my only concern is that...

    TRV puzzling problem

Thanks for your reply. It was a whole new valve and when I unscrewed the valve and turned it on I kept the head on and confirmed water ran through, although it did have to get to number 3/4 of 6 before water came through, and due to it being on the right my test only proved water passes through...

    TRV puzzling problem

I have had a few issues recently with my boiler (see my previous threads) but the one which is niggling me most is a trv I have fitted onto a new radiator. Essentially, I have replaced an old radiator with a new slightly larger radiator. The old one worked perfectly. When the heating kicks in...

Boiler not firing up after refill...help please

That's great, thanks MrCombi. Have you experience of them no nonsense screwfix brand cleaner or do you use the more expensive brands? I was just wondering if it was as good as the bigger brands.

Boiler not firing up after refill...help please

I did have to empty the system out a day after the cleanser had gone in as I was trying to shift the airlock upon previous advice (not on this forum) this was prior to the831bunny giving me the winning advice... so yes, I did waste a bottle of cleanser I suppose, but it was only the no nonsense...

Boiler not firing up after refill...help please

Could the trv valve bi-directional function be either switchable or wrong?? I have detached the valve from the radiator and ran it into a bucket and that worked fine, but that tested water running the opposite way to which it would do when the heating is running....
