When installing a shower with a combi is it just a case of tee-ing off ? Unlike the conentional open vented system that has a surrey flange and separate feed from the cwsc ? I know it is best to have a thermostatic mixer shower with a combi but what's the best way to install it?!! Curious ...

    compression thread size

compresion fittings do not have a thread! if it is a tap connector, etc then one end will be threaded, eg to be connected to the float valve, tap tail thread, etc. Then yep this end is 1/2" and the other end (compresion fitting to pipe) is 15mm, but you can get 3/4" to 22mm (for bath taps)...

Flexible hose size for toilet cistern

yep you have a direct system with the cold tank in the loft feeding your shower via the hot water cylinder. flexy pipes are not suitable for toilets on indirect systems as the presure is of course lower, flexy pipes restrict the flow and as it may be ok for a tap (basin/bath etc) to be fed...

Changing a pump - flowson for grundfos...

Quick question: can a flowson pump be replaced with a grundfos 15-15? They look the same size but the manufacturers instructions make the flowson about 2-3mm difference. Will it be OK? I believe that most pumps, Terrier/Flowson/Wilo/Grundfos, etc are stadard sizes for direct replacement, but...

    recommended sealants?

what sealants do you all use/prefer when sealing backs of basins/baths, etc. any recommendations? also do you think this sounds a bit silly: my mate had his bathroom tiled last week and the person who did it sealed between the wall and the top/sides of the wc cistern lid. meaning that to...

    few plumbing questions/faults...

reason why a pump may be making strange noises is due to air being sucked in through it (cavitation) - possibly by a blockage somewhere in the system allowing air to be drawn down the cold feed/vent.

i haven't got any pics i'm afraid, but i was just wondering if it was actually safe!! surely the heat will escape? obviously he has an electric shower that is not fed from it, but still, very very weird. I am asuming their is obviously a ball valve inside it, where the rising main enters...

    electric showers

sorry if this sounds ignorant!! : i knw bath taps are 3/4" bsp also, but this is usually the thread into which the tap connector joins the supply pipe. when you say washing machine/garden taps are 3/4" bsp do you mean the nozzle/spout? sorry i have never used a pressure gauge before but will...
