    Electrofusion Joints

No, I realise it can't be undone. But does the pipe rotate within the fitting..... I assume it doesn't.

    Electrofusion Joints

Do electrofusion joints swivel in the same way that plastic push fit fittings do, or are they fixed, like soldered joints are? I have a water pipe that has an electrofusion elbow joint on it and want to rotate the joint 180 degrees so the pipe lays the other direction. I've not fully dug the...

    Cavity Insulation Upgrade

Don't think it will cause problems, but can't imagine the brickies will be happy with it. PIR for cavity walls comes in sheets that are much smaller and therefore much easier to deal with - fitting wall ties will be fun, without spending ages cutting up the sheets...... probs best asking the...

    Gas pipe through wall

I rang him this evening and he said its so any gas leak won't fill the cavity wall. Not sure what to do now.

    Gas pipe through wall

My gas meter is fitted with a recessed meter box. The 22mm copper gas pipe passes through the cavity wall from the back of the meter box and is inside a plastic spigot. The spigot is sealed with some grey mastic stuff inside the meter box but there is no mastic on the inside wall where the...

    Joist hangers for monopitch roof

Sorted it. I used truss clips and bent them to fit.

    Joist hangers for monopitch roof

I have a monopitched roof on my front porch. There is a ledger plate screwed to the wall and the roof timbers lie at a 30 degree angle to the plate. They are skew nailed to the ledger plate. BCO has requested each timber be fitted with a joist hanger - massive overkill, but he's requested it...

    Hate of Women

Sport without abuse - i agree with. But calling all men 'privileged' by virtue of just being a male is devisive. It absolueltey is virtue signalling - why is nobody speaking up for the likes of Novac Djokovic? Because it goes against the woke agenda. There are much bigger issues at hand.

    Hate of Women

The silent majority (and it is a vast vast majority) need to at least begin to consider the possibility that these ideologies are becoming a genuine threat to their true liberty and freedom. Look at what is happening in Holland with the farmers - the BBC have a blanket ban on covering it...

    Hate of Women

And the most disturbing element in all this is how moderate, centred people are portrayed as far right extremists in society and in the media. I love the hypocrisy of 'Diversity' and 'Inclusivity' when it comes to anyones thoughts, ideas and speech that don't align with their own. All of a...

    Hate of Women

Its just another example of virtue signalling that corporate entities have become so enthralled with. There are much much bigger and more severe problems that they could highlight..... but they jump on this because they 'like the optics'. Its fashionable to fight for one of the popular causes...

    Board joints showing.....

I lay it on with a 14 inch stainless Marshall..... flatten with a 1200 st speedskim, repeat for 2nd coat. Then use the Marshall to flatten, then a wet trowel then finish with a 16 inch Nela Superflex. Sometimes ill polish it up with a refina plazi flex, but most times just leave it at the Nela...

    Board joints showing.....

I can feel it once I know its there..... just wondering what technique would eliminate them.... or is it just a case of flattening more at the joins? Wondering if cross toweling too early might cause it.......

    Board joints showing.....

I've been plastering a few years now. Its not my full time job, but I've done plenty of walls and ceilings. I'm pretty happy with the finish I get..... but one thing that plagues me a bit is the joints between boards showing up occasionally - usually where light hits an obtuse angle. I cant...

Sand or SLC under PIR on slab

Cant imagine that sand would move, but don't think I'd risk it for the sake of a bag of slc.

    Treated Timber Stud Walls

Can 2x4 treated timber be used in place of untreated? My local diy store currently has kiln dried c16 2x4 treated on offer and its quite a bit cheaper than untreated. Any reason not to use it......

    Groundworkers Trial Hole

My plans stated 600mm wide 1 meter deep footings. The quote came in based on that. When they started to dig, they ended up having to go to 1.8 meters. It cost me an extra 900 quid. That was about 6 months ago. But my footings were only across the back and down the side, ie 2 sided and not 3.
