Salamander CT50 shower pump stopped working

Thanks for that. I think I've probably literally cooked it now, though, as smoke was coming out of it just now! So I think it's probably too late to go down the the capacitor route and I've decided to pick up a replacement pump instead.

Salamander CT50 shower pump stopped working

I fitted a Salamander CT50+Xtra pump for our shower just over 4 years ago and it has worked very well since. This morning, though, it is not pumping the water properly when I turn the shower on - it just makes a humming noise and the shower has lost all force. I have checked to see whether the...

How to stop kitchen mixer tap from dripping?

Useful tip, thanks! The actual problem is not that it is dripping all the time but that the lever of the hot tip now goes slightly beyond the vertical position and when it does so, it drips. If it's in the vertical position (which is the furthest point the cold tap will go to, as it should be)...

How to stop kitchen mixer tap from dripping?

Yes, did the job, thanks. Just required more force than I was initially applying.

How to stop kitchen mixer tap from dripping?

You were quite right, I was able to unscrew the the lever and beneath it there was a grub screw, which I duly unscrewed. At this point I expected the cover/grip part of the tap to come away, but having removed the grub screw, nothing happened. Is it likely to be just seized with limescale, or is...

How to stop kitchen mixer tap from dripping?

Thanks. But how do I actually get at it? I can't see where to undo.

How to stop kitchen mixer tap from dripping?

My kitchen sink mixer (hot) tap is dripping, so I presume I need to replace a washer. I've not done this before on a mixer tap so I don't really know what I need to undo to get at the washer. This is what the tap looks like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/poqx6n8iaqta0du/taps.jpg?dl=0 Thanks!

    Shower pump stopping/starting, poor pressure

One last thing on this. The pump was already quieter than my previous one (which must have been at least 9 years old), but I've further quietened it by standing it on a little platform made of a bit of plywood bonded to 1" thick piece of closed cell foam. I only used the plywood cause I had a...

Loft tank has 2 ball valves - issues?

Interesting. I wonder how common this setup is. There is another, smaller, tank behind it, with some pretty manky looking water in it, which I presume is for the central heating. Not worked this bit out yet...

Loft tank has 2 ball valves - issues?

Not sure quite why the tank is so small. There's certainly room for a larger one. I wonder is the issue to do with weight? As regards the valves shutting off, it was the overflow which alerted me to the need to change one.

Loft tank has 2 ball valves - issues?

I've been getting to know the plumbing in my house a bit better in the last couple of weeks. One of the things which struck me as an oddity when I first spotted it a while back was that the cold water tank in the loft has two ball valves (one of which I had to replace recently because of a...

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

No, I do listen. I read 50 reviews of the pump on the Screwfix website, the great majority of which were very positive, and I read your 'review', where you kept repeating that the pump was 'shyte', without further explanation. So on balance I thought the pump was probably a good buy, especially...

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately they were already in the 'on' position, so nothing needed to be done (yet).

    Shower pump stopping/starting, poor pressure

Well, new pump duly installed and all working very nicely. Similar flow to previous pump, and a little quieter, I would say. Only hairy moment was when the connection to one of the out pipes was leaking, which necessitated draining off the header tank again. I opened up the connection to find...

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

Fortunately there are isolation valves on the flexible connector pipes for the new pump.

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

My apologies, it seems that the hot water flow to the shower pump has in fact stopped (by virtue of half a bucket or so spewing out a short while ago, probably).

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

As I said, the hot water stops running as soon as the loft tank is empty. From the little bit of research I just did, this is apparently how it's supposed to be - it's a safety feature. I got this from http://www.diyplumbing.co.uk/drain-hot-water-cylinder/: "This is because of how a...

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

I think I do need to, because there is no way of shutting off the hot water feed to the shower pump otherwise. If I were to detach the hot water inlet pipe from the shower pump, I'm pretty sure hot water would pour out of it.

Can't drain off hot water cylinder if header tank empty

I'm trying to install a replacement shower pump. To do so, because there are no isolation valves on the inlet pipes, I believe I have to a) empty the cold water tank in the loft, and b) empty the hot water cylinder. I've drained off the loft tank OK, and have tied up the ball valves so it...
