    excessive heat from dimmer switch??

    I just replaced a 3 way switch with a dimmer switch I got from my neighbor. It does not have wiring diagram with it. THe dimmer has a slide control with a push button on/off and a light on the button. The light does not work on the button and the button does not turn the lights on or off...
