    Beko dishwasher not heating

Just an update following further investigations... the heating and full programme fails about two tries in every three. When it fails, the heater comes on for about 20-30 seconds (draws about 2KW) but then the program is cut short. But when it works, it's perfect. I'm thinking that points to the...

Many thanks for that helpful reply. Just what I needed to know! Alec

    Beko dishwasher not heating

I have a Beko DW603 dishwasher, about 7 years old, which now leaves the dishes cold and wet. At first it failed to heat intermittently, but now it is a permanent fault. I realise this could be caused by a failed heating element or the programming card. As the cold washes seem to be shorter than...

    Insulating a steel door

Thanks again. I'll have to look in our local builder's merchant and hardware store (we have both nearby in Spain). At least I know what to ask for - tablero aislante - although they both speak a little English!

    Insulating a steel door

Thanks FMT, and a good idea to frame it or I guess the edges would look rough and be easily damaged.

    Insulating a steel door

Our holiday home abroad has a heavy steel stable-type door to the outside - the top is glazed but the bottom is steel sheet. This gets too hot in summer and too cold in winter - an obvious candidate for insulation. Can anyone suggest what product would be the most efficient without being...

Dark Patches after Applying Paint with a Paintbrush to a Painted Wall

I assume you have mixed the paint really well - those stirrers you use on an electric drill are really useful. Then try an aerosol sealer/stain-block on a sample problem area and then re-apply the paint over it when dry. That may give a clue as to what the problem is.

    Failed mains circuit

Thanks to all of you. Wise words indeed - I will wait until the weather is warmer and get the people I know to sort it out.

    Failed mains circuit

When my central heating suddenly failed during a recent freezing cold night, the fault was soon found - a loss of mains into a Siemens remote timer. No circuit RCDs tripped in the main distribution box. A local jobbing electrician did a temporary fix by running an extension to the timer along...

    Understanding underfloor manifold problems

Occasionally each autumn, when I turn on my underfloor heating, one or two zones fail to restart. My normal practice is then to fit new batteries to the Polypipe room thermostats, turn up the temperature setting, and make sure each is calling for heat. Then wait and see what works. Then into the...

    Beko dishwasher - door spring?

My Beko dishwasher suddenly made a pinging sound and now the door opens and closes freely, with no spring action. I assume there's either a broken spring or connecting cord - if that's the arrangement. Both are readily available, I see. Can anyone give me a link to a video specifically on Beko...

Surfacing dusty and part painted concrete

I have read the standard replies on floor screeds at the top of this forum but unfortunately they don't cover what I need to know. My concrete garage floor was obviously badly laid with a weak mix. Parts of it eventually became dusty. No amount of sealing with either dilute PVA or flooring...

    Sharp oven not heating food

I totally agree. I once had to replace the fuse in mine and I remember following the instructions to safely discharge the capacitor very carefully indeed.

Attaching old tiles with no nibs

Yes, please do - that would be really helpful. It's a pity Ringwood is so far from Midhurst... Many thanks, Alec.

Attaching old tiles with no nibs

Thanks - that's really helpful. I'll make sure the roofer uses the right material here. As you say, nailing each tile is another solution but - as the tiles are not automatically located by the nibs - I can imagine the visual effect could be a little uneven unless he's a real perfectionist and...

How could water be filtering into the ceiling?

Leaks are always a problem as they can show up some distance from the fault. Looking inside the cavity from below could be the only way to pin it down, so maybe you have sorted it by now. If not, however, a few ideas: Can you look down on the outer sheeting from above, or from a ladder, and...

    Builders Insurance

Many builders are registered with one of the find-a-builder schemes like checkatrade, so it's worth doing an online search on whoever you are considering. I'm not saying such schemes are necessarily foolproof and perfect, but they do have their uses - and one is confirming the builder's insurance.

    Sharp oven not heating food

When you say "not working" do you mean you can hear the fan running but there is no heat? I had that experience recently and the heating element had failed. Quite simple to change by an electrician or anyone with electrical experience. I was a bit confused by the photo though...

Attaching old tiles with no nibs

Our 100-year-old tiled roof has no underfelt and a few tiles are starting to slip, so I guess it's time to re-roof with new breathable felt and battens, using as many original tiles as possible to avoid losing its character. The old tiles seem generally sound; they have two holes, but they have...

    Kenwood oven trips mains off

Thanks Harry, that made it much clearer to understand what could have been happening. Alec.
