It took me the best part of a year to find somewhere when I was looking about 4 years ago, tell him to keep at it and don't lose hope. I agree with the comment about asking for work experience, this is exactly what I did and I am with the same firm now. Good luck :)

    Secondary Hot Water Circulators

Some the stainless steel ones we've fitted before can be used for both purposes so it's difficult to compare the costs.

    Secondary Hot Water Circulators

These are used for larger systems where there are long runs of pipework far away from the hot water tank. The purpose is to avoid large quantites of water becoming cool in the pipework which would then need to be drawn off before hot water reaches the outlets. There will be 'secondary return'...

    Vaillant heating predictions etc.

My parents have a VRC430 and on that you could set the maximum 'preheat' time. I set it up for a maximum of 90 minutes and it works brilliantly, not sure if the same can be done on the newer Vaillant controls.

Design service for underfloor heating layout

Looking good Dan, how do you find the pressfit copper? We've had an interesting experience with both carbon steel and copper pressfit as of late.

    Kamco FX2

Hey guys, I've been having a clear out and have approximately 4.5l of this stuff leftover. I have no use for it as I only used a little to clean a PHX a few years ago. Rather than throwing it away I thought I'd see if anyone would like to take it off my hands FOC, please PM if interested...

Cheap wireless thermostat for Baxi 80e combi

It was a RT500rf I think, it was really sensitive and used to result ib large swings in temperature, my parents found it a bit a bit fiddly too. Can't comment on reliability as it was soon changed. This was a while back so they might have improved now.

Cheap wireless thermostat for Baxi 80e combi

I wouldn't recommend the Salus of you're still thinking of buying one. I had one before and it was awful.

Shower room Fan Ducting - Change from Soffit to roof tile exhaust?

You could use something like this: http://www.vent-axia.com/range/back-draught-shutters.html I did something similar at my parents' house a few years back. The instructions for the fan I used (Vent Axia ACM) stated that the fan should be at the highest point in the system to avoid any chance...

Rented property - no room thermostat

No one said I won't be taking permission from the landlord or physically carrying out the work myself. There's been a couple of other things in the house which we weren't happy with and the landlord was happy to let us sort these out ourself. I'm not going to make any further comments on this as...

Rented property - no room thermostat

The RGI who came agreed that the current setup is wasteful but said the regulations wouldn't apply as it's an existing system. I believe this is wrong because the requirement for a boiler interlock still applies even if just the boiler is replaced. Unless I'm mistaken? Still, he will send...

Rented property - no room thermostat

The letting agencies words were "because he's the qualified person" ... even though I am also qualified in the field, albeit not in domestic gas. The 2010 (which would have applied when the boiler was installed) Part L compliance guide is clear as day and explicitly states that TRVs alone do...

Rented property - no room thermostat

The RGI is coming on Thursday to carry out the annual safety check and investigate the system. I just hope he's decent and recognises the problem.

    Trickle fan needed

You can acheive this with this Vent Axia product: http://www.vent-axia.com/range/lo-carbon-centra.html you just set the speed you require by moving a jumper and you can wire in a boost switch if you wish. There are a lot of other products out there that can do this

Rented property - no room thermostat

Indeed. I had a look at the Benchmark at the back of the MIs - the box for a boiler interlock is ticked, this would imply that the system did have a thermostat at some point which was then removed or it was just ticked without actually having one installed.

Rented property - no room thermostat

This whole issue is beginning to annoy me. The initial response through the letting agent was that the landlord 'isn't keen' on fitting a thermostat and we should use the TRVs. I then sent an email detailing the Part L requirement and an extract from the boiler manual which clearly states that...

Rented property - no room thermostat

Unfortunately not, I wouldn't even try with it being a rented property. I shall update this thread tomorrow because I should have heard back from the landlord by then.

Rented property - no room thermostat

I have a horrible feeling that this will happen. I take it the landlord doesn't have to provide one even though it's in the Building Regs etc.? I don't mind getting one installed myself but I'd rather the landlord provided one.

Vaillant Ecotec plus 831 strong enough

My parents have had a 937 for nearly 8 years; great when it works but reliable it is not, there's too many common issues that aren't easy to repair which cause constant worry. It'll be replaced with a traditional set up or just a smaller combi.
