    Security screws problem

Iam struggling to find a screwdriver/bit to fit some security screws on electrical accessories. I have encountered these before in schools, homes, etc and have opened them using my standard security bits set but none of them fit these ones. They are the type with two holes on either side of the...

    Clever extract fan

I found something today while doing a PIR that I have not encountered before. The kitchen extract fan would come on only when the hob/oven, toaster were switched on or the cooker hood extract was on the third setting which is full speed. Any ideas?

    Time saving tester

Can anybody recommend a multifunction tester with a decent facility for uploading results to a computer? Tried the Megger MFT1553, which is a good meter, but found the blue tooth laborious. I want something that will save me time with paperwork on a large PIR job.

    Are these the oldest rcbos?

Found some of these while doing a PIR. Does anyone know if they are the oldest rcbos? They seem to have been fitted in the early 70s.and take up two and a half ways in the board. The only ones I can think of that are near that old are the square d qo ones.

    NICEIC continuation sheets.

Does anybody know why these continuation sheets were changed from 24 lines to 21? There seems to be no reason to it as there is no more information that requires that much more space at the top and bottom of the form. Is it really as cynical as trying to sell more pads? I'm doing a PIR at the...

    Pipe clamps and swa cable

While at a job this week I found some swa cables with pipe clamps and flying leads used instead of earth tags. I know that the clamps cause damage to the conductors but does anybody know if there is a specific reg that covers this? I have already quoted 134.1.1 and 134.1.2 in my report.

    Cost of BS7671 2008

I have encountered a real reluctance in clients in commercial premesis to foot the bill for the additional costs incurred by the introduction of the 17th edition. I have done quite a few 3 phase DB changes and every time there is the same hassle about the price of 24 or 36 RCBOs as compared to...

    Street lighting shocker.

I was called to an industrial estate today as they had some street lighting off. There were ten lights on the circuit supplied by 10mm2 swa underground and after overriding the photocell I found that the last three lights weren't working. After confirming there was no voltage at the 8th column I...
