EcoTEC 832: Failure with F62 - dodgy PCB or Gasvalve

My EcoTEC boiler stopped working yesterday with a F62. I have managed to do a reset and the problem has not resurfaced. Is it wise to stick with this and rely doing a subsequent reset should the issue arise again or should I get the engineer on to this ASAP? Thanks for any help.

Thermostatic bath/shower mixer - an experience of these models?

I would like to obtain one of these deck-mounted mixers below. Does anyone have any advice as to whether there is much difference in quality between them given that they cover quite a range of prices? I guess the more expensive the model the more the internals are made from brass rather than...

Anyone able to identify these two birds?

Sorry for the quality of this pic - it was taken on a Samsung phone albeit with the telephoto option. Presumably you can enlarge pic at expense of resolution. This pair were spotted in the garden yesterday evening. I noticed the smaller one (on the left) first, as it was on its own checking out...

Insuring vehicle for MOT (revisited) – Car sat stationary for 10 years passes MOT with no advisories!

Well it is just over 5 years ago that I raised this issue on an old friend’s behalf via this illustrious forum. As expected, I received some compelling advice which, if it were my vehicle, would have acted upon. Characteristically, my old mate did nowt, so the motor sat collecting dust in the...

What is the best item to replace a leaking TRV?

This Honeywell Home VTL120 valve has a small onging leak. All rads on this system have this model of TRV but it is this one alone that is regularly manually turned from fully closed to fully open (when the occupants use this particular room). The rest of CH system is controlled by a Hive remote...

    Roof tile batten broken

A leak in bungalow roof caused an ingress of water a couple of evenings ago. The following morning a quick view from the garden showed that one of the roof tiles had slid downwards creating a small opening. This tile normally sits under the flashing of a ventilation pipe. Upon checking out the...

Difficulty separating cable from coolant sensor.

I am finding it extremely difficult to pull this Yaris (2002) cable connector from the coolant sensor as I can only just get one hand in. Is it just a question of tugging as hard as possible or do the two red-arrowed prongs need to be squeezed simultaneously? Thanks, kindly for any help.

Yaris: Engine fan coming on prior to engine getting hot.

Toyota Yaris (2002) 1.0 petrol Mileage: 51,000 Problem: Engine fan coming on without reaching HOT I am a bit bemused by this particular issue as the car is running well generally. The engine fan comes on about the time that the blue light (COLD) switches off. I thought...

    Pop-up waste query.

Hi guys Would somebody kindly confirm the purpose of the small rubber washer on the pop-up waste pushrod, please. Should it be tucked down inside the body of the tap to reduce any lateral movement of the rod? Thanks for any help. :)

Very old front loading washing machine still performs but...

A few years ago I passed on old washing machine to a young relative expecting that it might be something she could use for a year or two before it finally exited this world. I was astonished to find out a day or so ago that the bloody thing is still functioning – I actually purchased it in 1982...

    Removing an oxygen sensor

I am trying to extract this oxygen sensor so that it can be used again in a replacement exhaust. There are many examples on YouTube of folk doing this but just about in all cases, contrary to my objective, they are attempting to replace a new sensor into an existing exhaust. So far I have...

Kitchen mixer with pull-out spray - compliance with Water Regs?

A friend of mine has bought one of those kitchen mixers with a pull-out spray and has asked if I can install it. I took a cursory look at the instructions and have read the following. It could be a criminal offence to use this tap with water supplied by a Water Company. (The supply pipe is...

    Yaris: Replacing drive-belt issue

Hi guys Would anyone have any recommendations for this seemingly minor problem? I am trying to replace the auxiliary drive-belt on a Toyota Yaris 2002. The pivot bolt underneath the alternator has been completely slackened as has the lockbolt on the adjuster mechanism but despite this no...

Renewed vehicle licence seemingly without valid MOT?

An older vehicle seems to have been left unmoved for several weeks nearby to where I live. Originally I thought it might have been dumped but recently I checked on the government website as to whether it was properly MOT’d etc. The MOT was due to expire on the 1st Feb 2019 so I have looked...

Removing collar of ancient waste disposal unit

I have managed to detach an old waste disposal unit by undoing three securing bolts but remain yet to remove the supporting collar. There is a snap ring (part of the red lever) in place that I think should be shifted somehow but I am finding this confusing. Any ideas would be much appreciated...

Considerations for a new gas heater

Could anyone give some advice here, please. My elderly folks could have done with a little extra heat over the winter in addition to what is provided by their combi-boiler CH. They have a supplementary gas heater as shown below but the guy that conducted their most recent CH service said that it...

What material to fill large gap in corner of cupboard?

I will shortly be having a new boiler installed in this cupboard. Before this, though, I would like to tidy up the considerable gap that runs pretty much from top to bottom - at the lower section you can see the exposed lathes. Would I be able to apply some expanding foam into this gap or is it...

New boiler - which should pre-Vaill?

I require to replace a dead general system boiler in a modest size flat containing 6 rads with one of the following Vaillant models: eco Tec 28, ecoFit Pure 830, Eco Tec Plus 832. Is there any preference with any of these models? I can see that the Plus 832 has been out since 2009 whereas the...
