    Help installing Dudley Acclaim cistern

I am fitting a new Dudley Acclaim cistern (LL 6/7/9L HP/LP B/V part no. PACWHS 315196) to an old pan and need the 9L flush. The syphon does not correspond exactly to either of those in the instructions. DudleyAcclaimSyphonInstructions by MikeAustin posted 19 Oct 2018 at 11:28 PM...

    Loosening basin tap nuts

Bu66er! I got some specialist WD40 penetrant and let it soak for a while. Then I applied just a little heat with a blow torch. I put on the box spanner with a wrench and whacked it on the end with my fist. Crack! A big crack went across the corner of the sink! That's the end of that problem. Now...

    Loosening basin tap nuts

Now that's an idea! I have some hole cutters for cutting tap holes. They are probably not man enough to cut through the brass nut, but it is worth a bash.

    Loosening basin tap nuts

Yes, I have a box spanner that fits, with a small Tommy bar. I have heaved on it but I think I can feel the corners beginning to turn.

    Loosening basin tap nuts

I did try that, without success, but I was very careful. Maybe I should have been a bit bolder. The putty is so old, it is like dust. In fact, it has the same appearance as plaster. Could that be possible? When I changed my bath a few years ago, I found nuts on the compression fittings had also...

    Loosening basin tap nuts

Thanks, but that is the last option on my list - one below getting the small drill and cutting disc out.

    Loosening basin tap nuts

I have an old basin with square tap holes and old taps with round bases. I want to keep the basin and replace the taps. The holding nuts underneath the taps have seized. They are in a slight recess, so it is difficult to get a sizeable spanner to them. I removed one after hours of cutting away...

WB1A persistent F4 error - repair or replace?

I am having problems with my Viessmann Vitodens 100 WB1A 18kW Heat Only Gas Boiler (Serial no.7179920501169106). It was fitted in October 2005. There was a repeated F4 error in April 2016, which was fixed by the removal of the problematic 'flappy valve'. It was serviced on November 2017, and the...

Reverse boiler flush? (Viessmann Vitodens 100)

... except that it was the burner that I was referring to when I said it got coked up. See the picture in the thread here.

Reverse boiler flush? (Viessmann Vitodens 100)

Hi HO, I have done nothing more to my system, which is limping along just adequately at the moment. As you may have read in another thread, the flappy valve got stuck and I got someone to remove it. It was quite coked up inside. When it comes round for service, I will put your suggestion to him...

    Temporary wall light removal

Just the topic I was looking for - only in my case, it is the provision of a wall light connection prior to deciding on what lighting to have eventually. I have just hacked out a length of 1/2" lead conduit that I think was from a gas light, so I have the opportunity to put lighting cable back...

    Viessmann WB1A F5 error

Hi Tony. Thanks for your interest. Here is the service/maintenance record: Boiler service sheet by MikeAustin posted 15 Feb 2016 at 5:38 PM I note that many appliance items, including the burner, are ticked off as correct when they were not inspected. I am claiming a refund. BTW, I connected...

    Viessmann WB1A F5 error

There was some sort of seal on the gas supply that the RGI said he had opened for the first time, indicating that the boiler had not been properly serviced since new (10 years) The boiler would not have been opened for at least 6 years. I don't know the flue gas readings from the other guy's...

    Viessmann WB1A F5 error

Today, after having another F5, I called out a Viessmann recommended RGI - a good one! He fixed the flap (referred to as 'mixture damper' in the service manual) in the normal way, being quite familiar with the problem. He took a photo when he opened the burner, because this is what he found...
