    Calling all roof tile geeks!

Who are able to identify these tiles? They're from a 1934 house and I did know the name. Quite unusual tiles and hard to match!

    Howdens kitchens

I do various bits of building work and have fitted about 8 Ikea kitchens for clients - they've been delighted and despite cabinet space at back we've always got them in well. We've now been asked to supply and fit a Howdens kitchen. Never used them, know they're big with builders and ready...

    Franke composite sinks

Their new material Fragranite is supposed to get around the staining prolbmes with composite sinks so they claim. Great - we've put one in and two weeks later it's staining after regular cleaning. Their advise involves drying it after use. Is this a joke? Drying your sink after using it would...

Removing masking tape residue from acrylic bath

Have we got any tilers/builders who've done this before? I'm dubious of white spirits which may damage the finish and have tried WD40 which hasn't shifted the gum

Felt backed carpet onto underlay and spikes from gripper

I've used felt backed carpet with underlay and gripper before and it was never a tight fit and also you can feel the spikes from the gripper. Spoke with a carpet fitter today and he said felt backed is designed for glueing not spikes and that it wont stretch like hessian so will never sit...

Wooden and concrete gripper for carpet

Previously I've had a fitter use concrete for both wood and concrete subfloors. Does it matter? Presumably the concrete one is just a tougher nail to penetrate the concrete?

central heating system losing pressure on new install

Replaced the existing central heating system myself using SPeedfit. Put 1.5bar of pressure on Thursday to test and it's dropped to 1.25 bar. The system's been off. I can't find any leaks at the joints and am wondering if this pressure drop may be due to the plastic expanding slightly under...

External plumbing - copper or Speedfit?

I've run a 15mm pipe for an outside tap and got it through the external wall. It's now going to bend 90 degrees and go up to an outside tap. Should I run this in Speedfit or copper to best avoid winter freezing?

    Engineered flooring install questions

I've found most of the info I need online. A few questions for any professional fitters out there: 1. Is DPC sheet needed to lay over original pine floorboards on the ground floor? 2. After fitting and removing the wedges, do I need to use cork expansion inserts where the wedges were or are...

Had some work done by an NICEIC guy and unsure if it's been done properly/safely What would be the correct and acceptable way to wire up a bathroom cabinet with an internal light? i.e. how should the cabinet flex be connected to the T&E of the lighting system in order to safe and compliant...

    Cabling for new double oven?

I'm replacing a single oven. It's wired in 1.5mm flex from a cooker outlet plate (which is fed via an isolator in 6mm T&E on it's own radial). What cable should I use from the outlet plate into the oven (rated 4.4KW)?

Where to finish support at front of shower tray?

I need to allow 10mm for the front panel of the tray, so have to cut the ply the tray sits on at the front 10mm short and hence it wont support the tray for the front 8cm as there's a big gap behing the front. Is this okay or do I need to do something else/differently? Image below to show...

Electric Underfloor heating - combined FCU/controller?

I'm considering having it done. I'd have a new radial installed for it. Does it require a separate FCU for the controller or can you buy combined ones (I can't find any).

I've going to build two separate waste runs that meet and go into one 50mm pipe before hitting the SVP. I'm going to run: 1. Shower waste (40mm) into 50mm then later connect a 32mm sink waste into this then to join 2. below in 50mm pipe 2. Sink waste (32mm) then this will go into a 50mm...

    HEPV0 - any good?

Been around for a while, heard of them, but never tried one. Thins like the BC 38mm air test scare me with these fitted, also do they still self close in years to come if residues ends up down the pipe? The fact you don't need to use an AAV with these interests me though! Anyone had...

Just built steps outside the house, covered in limestone and bedded in mortar. Look great. The mortar's tough but I've used a bit too much plasticiser and would like to both seal it and also harden it with something. Product ideas please?
