    Shower trap fitting problem

Finally installed shower tray! Top tip for anyone using tray with built in levelling screws, make sure base is level. I screwed a few pieces of marine ply to build up to the underside of tray to make it easier when siliconing underneath. As you can see, blobs of Stixall underneath to give it...

    Shower trap fitting problem

I'll leave a copy of the instructions under the tray so he'll see how fiddly the self-levelling screws are, he'll understand

    Shower trap fitting problem

Just wanted to give update. Had a mental block with this and only returned to it yesterday. As the base(marine ply) wasn't level, I had to pack under the levelling screws to get level. Took me hours faffing around but really happy with level now. Used a cut up saw blade on top of packers so...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Sounds like good advice to me Rob, thank you. After a load of faffing around, I realised the base/plinth isn't straight, rookie mistake! Gonna have to pack up with varying thicknesses of wood with aluminium on top so the load screw doesn't dig in (probably more economical using 50p pieces the...

    Shower trap fitting problem

I see what you mean, depends on the built in fall I guess. The instruction do say to clean it regularly with something, can't remember what.

    Shower trap fitting problem

It's a lovely tray as it goes. Its got like a rippled surface for non slip effect. Looks the business to me, but then I'm no plumber and ain't seen many shower trays...

    Shower trap fitting problem

I know, that's what I wanted to reply with but I'm too polite. He was the sales guy who had had some sort of presentation from the manufacturer as the sales guy thought it was boll@x also funny enough. But he said it looked fine to him. I'm still gonna do it the proper way tho as in Stixall...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Thank you Rob, My thoughts exactly. The tray is sitting on a marine ply, I guess it's softwood, I'm not sure TBH. I can't bring myself to fit tray as per the instructions. Those load points aren't even 10mm diameter. I have some pieces of about 3mm aluminium which I am going to place under the...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Self levelling screws?.... Been looking at shower trays a while now but never seen these b4 until now. New shower tray has these sort of grub screws to level it. About 7mm long, I screwed them in 2mm as per instructions. I rang the manufacturer before purchase and they were very clear that NO...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Thank you again Rob. Your instructions make total sense. I did go a bit OTT with the adhesive . It was a 20kg bag and was so afraid of running short half way through so mixed and slapped the lot down. Your guide sounds like the way to go tho. Yes, I did seal between plinth and backer board (I...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Hi, I'm putting this down to experience and starting again. Shower tray came up worryingly easy, will prime underside of tray next time. The tile adhesive was like poop to a blanket tho. Thinking of buying one of these trays (Ascent Premier tray). Anyone know anything about them, thanks...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Non-progress update. After fitting shower tray the other day, I recall the bubble showing a bow in the middle of tray. I thought this was normal with built in fall, but after some Googling apparantly not. I'm thinking It may be better to rip out and start again with new tray. I'll have to find a...

    Shower trap fitting problem

Could I get a longer threaded middle bit instead as McAlpine do them? : https://mcalpineplumbing.com/traps/shower-traps-accessories/stw70lnlc-long-locking-nut

    Shower trap fitting problem

Oh, right, I see. So there should be no support needed under the waste area? So I can cut away so the trap butts up to the underside of tray, hence allowing more thread? Unlike I've done already unfortunately ?

    Shower trap fitting problem

I just had a look at a Mcalpine trap I bought, when screwed in 2 turns there's 20mm available thread, whereas the iflow one has barely 13mm available thread. Yes, sorry, there's a rubber seal to add also, so that would make it worse. I'm going to try the Mcalpine one now, report back in morning...

    Shower trap fitting problem

I must be missing something, the middle bit is just about biting into thread here and it's over 20mm which should work. EDIT: Sorry, the thread is just resting on trap here. When screwed in 2 turns, there's barely 13mm gap.
