2 way switching plus 1 intermediate

Is there more than one way? I've laid cable in like this: but have seen this: I'm not really bothered as long as it works and have loads of 3C+E to use up. Obviously the second diagram using red for all the cables is about as much use a a chocolate teapot for a DIYer. Thanks.

    Identify kitchen drawer front fixings.

Can anyone identify these? I was told supplied by Howdens but I'm not sure. Thanks.

    Track saw, mfc, chipping.

Top side is acceptable, bottom not great - it's the (new) 40t blade that came with the erbauer saw. Most of the cuts only show 1 side but some (shelves) will show both. I know I could probably cut from both sides but just wondered if a finer (60 or 80t blade would make any difference? Thanks.

    Kitchen question.

We're planning a new kitchen and I have loads of questions. To get the ball rolling - Cheapest place for true handleless units (not J pull) with colour matched carcases and with actual listed prices not smoke and mirrors. Anyone used www.fittingsco.co.uk for drawers/baskets (I know they're...

    Which cable?

I'm doing my first fix for our future kitchen. I think it'll be single oven and induction hob, possibly a second oven, one of those steam things. At the same time I'm reflooring the ground floor, incorporating underfloor insulation - there will be no access under the majority of the floor in...

    Floor leveling

I've knocked through to the new extension slab and need to level through to the existing timber floors. I'm reboarding the timber throughout so that will be made perfect. My laser level tells me I need to raise the timber floor by 10mm to come to the top of the highest point of concrete (slab is...

    Recycling oak

I need some oak for a few projects, short boards around 4-5" wide by about 1.5" thick. I'm thinking of buying a used oak dining table off eBay and cutting it up. I have a bench saw, plunge saw, router etc so I'm happy with cutting and putting a simple bevel on it but I'm not sure about...

    Full fibre

Hopefully a simple question. If I change my broadband from VM to another supplier who has offered me "full fibre", will someone replace the crappy (not used for years and cut off halfway up the wall) BT copper wire to my house?

Can I remove bottom newel post and lower balustrade?

I don't think they're structural? I know I'll need a bit of handrail on the other wall. The aim is something like the lower section below, with the retained higher components clad in plasterboard and capped with oak:

    Stair tread lights

I (or rather my wife) wants stair tread lights so I'm looking for a bit of advice. Currently it's all open and stripped for first fix, I think I want them on the stairs circuit so at this stage is it just a case of looping a cable up to the rose and down under the stairs? After that is seems...

    2 way switching incorporating PIR

I'm a big fan of PIR light switches, I have 3 in my house and don't need to wave my hands around - they just work when they need to. I want to fit one to the upstairs landing (I can't find the light switch when I come out of the bedroom), but downstairs (open plan) I'll need a manual switch...

    Yet another garden shed post!

I'm building a small garden shed, about 0.9x1.2x 1.8h to fit in a small "alcove". I'm using cladco composite cladding and something like 3x2 CLS for the frame. I'm just a bit concerned about racking - given that the cladding is designed to be fixed at the top and then hang, will it be...

    Roof out of level

I've fixed my new fascia level, the rafters run down across the roof (at least 25mm difference over about 5m) - should I trim the top of the fascia to match the slope of the rafters or just leave it, or half and half it? Tiles are Marley modern style.

    Links cabinet wall brackets?

Can anyone identify these (wall hung bathroom vanity unit), all I want to know is which or whether I'm ok with standard wall brackets? It was an ex display unit so didn't come with any.

    Fixing wall shower outlet.

How do I fix this in place? All I can think of is pulling the fitting through the tile hole, tightening the outlet on then squirting silicone in the hole and pushing the outlet against the tile till it sets?

Building control query - roof fixings

I've just received this from BC: "The pitched roof construction appears to be satisfactory however please confirm, how the roof timbers are fixed to the wall plate as no L / truss clips were noted." My proposed response is: "they are skew nailed with at least 2 x 100mm nails each" Will this...

    A few tiling questions

I'm starting with the floor, it's (so far), first floor timber, t&g boards, SBR, flexible adhesive, 6mm cement boards screwed into the adhesive. The tiles are 600mm porcelain. The floor is out by no more than 4mm over the length of a 1200mm level. Can anyone advise - size of trowel (and...

    Dry roof valley help please.

I'm fitting a grp valley and would like to keep the existing valley boards, but they are nailed on top of the rafters rather than set flush - so if the membrane is under the battens it will have to step up onto the board, is this ok? I think it will create a trough down the side of the board...

    Lockshield valve?

I recently fitted a second hand radiator I acquired a few years ago. It's all working fine but has a valve I don't really recognise. I see the built in drain cock but I'm not to sure about the lockshield part - I don't want to mess with it but presume it's fixed rather than adjustable, or is...

    Sticking on MDF skirting boards

I have my skirtings, my d&d walls and my no-nails. Is it as easy as it says on the tin - beads on the boards and press on? I've always used screws and plugs in the past but would rather not as it's drylined and I've pre painted the boards - but I don't want a disaster!
