Ratio roof window to floor space in loft

Try the velux site for some ideas. Only you know what you intend to use the loft space for and how much natural light you want. If its only for storage then the smallest velux will give enough light to see around, if its for a work space then you could go for more/several velux all depends...

    internet cafes

good point JJ about the possible software on a public computer. I would add that if you must check your emails from abroad on a public computer then why not set up a new email address for this express purpose and have your other emails forwarded on so then you only have to guard that password...

    Cats in the garden ....

totally lateral thinking  borrow/rent a couple of geese for a week or two  they will guard your garden and see off any cats any time of day or night. Don't be tempted to keep them permanently unless you are well detached from your neighbours cos they do make a lot of noise...

    Central heating query

seems to me that it might be a pipework problem that the previous owner knew all about and decided to have that 'lever' installed as a quick fix. If it works that way then why not just make do with having to do a manual control of the CH until such time as you decide to redo your whole system...

    Threatening builders

as a matter of nosiness  may we know what the price £ was and what it went up to? £ and if he asked for a deposit and that too then went up and you say that no money changed hands then what was the deposit going to be for and why, without said deposit, did he 'buy materials'?

    Contemporary Garden Wall

Looks nice. Can't answer about the construction but somebody in the know will be along in a min. However, do make sure that you own all the walls cos if the end wall belongs to a neighbour then you may not attach any part of your walls to it, and certainly not cross over any dpc. Even if...
