    Kitchen tiles

Thanks, guys. Plasterboard it is, then! Will I need to skim, or can I tile straight onto the paper surface? jc

    Kitchen tiles

That's not acceptable to the interior designer! How can I pack behind the tiles, without using buckets of adhesive, which will make it difficult to get a flat result?

    Kitchen tiles

I'm planning to tile the walls between the base and wall cupboards in the kitchen In order to hide a gap (approx 20mm) between the rear of the new worktop and the wall (it's a long story!) I need to pack the space between the plaster and the tiles with something. I could use a huge amount of...

    Hob Wiring: Quick Question

Thanks, guys. At the risk of showing ignorance, why should I go with the rubber one specified, and not use some other type of heat-resistant flex, as long as it's up to the job, temp-wise? (and, obviously, conductor size)

    Hob Wiring: Quick Question

Baumatic hob: manual says use 2.5mm2 H05 RR-F <HAR> cable (do they mean flex?) to connect. Where do I get this, as none of the usual online sources seem to list it this implies it's not that common? Alternatively, can I substitute something else with same heatresisting ability? (same...

    Very bad TV reception

'nother thing you might like to check out is polarisation of the signal. We had rubbish reception, despite being able to see the TV mast, until I found out that (through TLC's website, www.tlc-direct.co.uk) that our local transmitter gives vertically polarised signals and our aerial was fixed...

    Downlights

This would be the spare piece of circular wire that has the two ends bent in towards the centre, and the diameter of which just about matches the front face of the bulb? If so, that's a spring clip which you fix in by squeezing the two ends together and pushing against the face of the bulb, in...

    6mm + 10mm cable

Can't understand why they can't emboss the size on the outer sheath - they put plenty of other stuff on there!

Connection a junction box to a 10mm ring

The situation I have is that I've inherited a cooker radial, using 6mm2 cable, (I originally thought it was 10mm2, but it isn't!) and protected by a 30A cartridge fuse. (Cable run is under floorboards, and down hollow plasterboard stud partition, total length approx 4m) This has had a large...

Connection a junction box to a 10mm ring

So, at the risk of flogging this one to death, there's nothing wrong in taking a 2.5mm2 line to a fcu from a 10mm2 cooker radial, because the 13A fuse in the fcu will pop, protecting both the line before the fcu and the line and appliance after the fcu?

Connection a junction box to a 10mm ring

Many people must be faced with the same dilemma these days, going from the huge old cooker to separate hob and oven. Although you can usually put the oven on a ring main (if it's a single) it seems you guys think it better not to do this. Taking a (an?) fcu from the existing cooker supply cable...

Fitting mcb,s to existing fuse board

This all started with a bulb going, causing the 5A cartridge fuse to pop and a consequent shave and shower in the dark. Subsequent conversation with a neighbour revealed the existence of plug-in MCBs, which seemed like a great idea. I found the GE minitrips at toolstation, but, having got them...

Fitting mcb,s to existing fuse board

Might seem a daft question, but do the MCBs, bases and consumer unit have to be all the same make? I believe I've got a Wylex CU with plug in cartridge fuse carriers, but can only find GE minitrips. These don't fit the existing bases. Will the GE minitrip bases simply replace the exisitong ones?
