    Boiler not fully lighting.

My ideal Standard boiler has stopped fully lighting. The boiler clicks on, gas starts to flow, the gas ignites (I can see it through the sight glass), then nothing. The normal whooshing sound of the main burner lighting doesn’t happen. Any Thought?

Ideal Standard ff350 clicking on and off rapidly.

My Ideal Standard FF350 has developed a problem. Sometimes a clicking that sounds like an electrical solenoid clicking on and off can be heard coming from behind the temperature control knob on the boiler. As it clicks on and off, the flame flickers up and down or off all together. The pump...

Shower door handle 60mm on centres?

I need to install a sliding shower door handle. I can't find one for the dimensions anywhere. The holes are 8mm wide and 60mm apart on centre. Nobody appears to list a part that'd fit these holes. Only ones I can find are for 140 or 145mm on centre. Replacing the door isn't an...

Celsius elite or Pilkington Activ blue

I'm in the process of buying a new conservatory. The frame and glass on the existing one are falling to pieces. I've had two companies round so far. One suggested Pilkington Activ glass and the other suggested K2 Celsius elite. The thing is, it's going to be a child's play room so needs to be...

Converting a conservatory into a sunroom/ additional room?

I currently have a 3m x 3.5m traditional, I think Georgian style conservatory in a south west facing garden. It has dwarf walls, lots of draughts between roof and walls and is freezing cold in the winter and unusably hot in the summer. To get better use from the space, I'm thinking about...

Electric underfloor heating advice needed please.

I have a small conservatory that is about 2.5m square. It us cold in the winter and roasting hot in summer. I want to get more use from it in the winter so I fancy electric underfloor heating. The floor is currently ceramic tiles on concrete slab with no insulation as far as I know. I intend...

Wooden window water leak in a very odd place!

I have wooden window frames which hold double glazed units. In my lounge I have a bay window setup. In the recent downpour I have an oddly positioned water leak into the house. The water is coming in through the corner join at the very top right hand corner of the right hand side of the bay...

Bedroom fitted furniture vs MFI Measuring Tape

Okay, minor rant, MFI man came to measue our bedroom for new fitted furniture. HE measured! Went to store, got everything sorted out, bought layout, waited a month for delivery, as always some items missing. Waited some more, built all wardrobes along one wall. Came to sort out bed...

    Opinions on Wet Room idea

Hello, I am in the process of finalising plans for a refit to my bathroom. Includes a shower, toilet and basin, no bath. It is a small room, L shaped, about 1 metre wide by 2.5 metre long basic shape, with a door at one narrow end, adjacent to the door is a 40cm additional recess of full...

    Radiator size problem

I am about to refurbish a bathroom, need to change the rad as the existing one is going rusty at the bottom. It is 680, wide and 630mm tall. I can only seem to find 600mm x 600mm in local stockists. I'd rather just do like for like swap. Is the existing size available, if so, from...

    Shower pump question

Hello all, I have a 20 year old house with an ensuite shower room. The shower is really weak and when we bought the house I asked the home owner if he knew why (it is pretty much unusable) He said the shower pump that was there when he moved in had failed and been removed as it was cheaper...

Is this a simply replacement? (Shower pump)

Hello all, I have a question that I am unsure where to place, the electrics forum is my best guess. I have a 20 year old house with an ensuite shower room. The shower is really weak and when we bought the house I asked the home owner if he knew why (it is pretty much unusable) He said the...

How exactly do you use self levelling compound?

I know it is a thick question but I am clearly too thick to be able to do this simple job properly. I am in the process of laying a new wooden floor throughout the ground floor of my house. In the summer I did the hallway, the area by the front door was very unlevel and dipped downwards...

New back door needed - Wood or uPVC

My existing back door has a cat flap in it and is going rotten in patches. It is single 1/2 galzed and looks horrid. I will be looking to replace it soon. The door leads into the utility room which has 3 outside walls. It is very cold, mainly due to this door been a poor fit and having a DIY...

    Yellow water after new sink?

I replaced my cloakroom sink and loo two weeks ago. I removed the old and installed the new. The position changed for the sink very slightly, so I renewed the pipework over about 1 and a half metres, I used copper pipe and compression fittings in the main and 2 speedfit elbows as these were out...

Smallest possible radiator to heat a kitchen, any thoughts?

Hello all, I am in the process of planning a new kitchen. I have an awkward room to deal with. It is square, and has three doors going into it. To maximise working space, I need every bit of wall space free for storage. I have a standard white rad on a wall which is into a corner. The wall is...

wiring for mains powered smoke alarms

Hi all, I have recently moved into a new house. It has two mains powered smoke alarms fitted which are very yellowed and ugly. I want to replace them with new ones. I had a look at the wiring behind them and I found 3 wires, one brown, one blue and one orange. They are the same in both...

Can I un-install my own gas cooker?

I am in the process of moving house and will be taking my freestanding gas cooker with me. I will obviously get it installed again at the other end by a corgi person, but can I disconnect it myself? If this is possible, how is it done? Ta Andy
