    Fair quote?

Not overly excessive, imo. The sq/m prices your contact used are irrelevant on small jobs like this.

    bonding gutter or not

I would think the neighbour has had a re-roof in the not too distant past and had the gutters replaced too. That slate roof looks in very good condition to me, or at least the slate do. Unfortunately the muppets that put the tiles on have done a bad job of bonding the two roofs. To swap a...

    bonding gutter or not

Which will be the result of a previous leak/repair caused by that horrendous cement joint...the slate looks in very good condition and pretty well bonded/straight, dontcha think? What a pity they decided to tile that roof.

    Option a or b?

or c) look at it as £180 well spent. If the job looks right and is right then why would it be £180 lost?

    bonding gutter or not

I agree, but we know why they've re-roofed in tiles. 'Yes squire......those slates are shot..........new tiles needed' Or should I say 'those tiles are a lot cheaper than slate so we'll charge the customer for the new tiles and sell the slate, nice little earner(£400+) and a lot less...

Wooden Fascias getting old, paint or replace?

If the timber is ok( behind the gutters being the place where most rot first)then go for the painting.........being of the 'ole school' I much prefer the look of original timber fascias.

Get permission in writing from the landlord/owner to carry out the work and get something in writing from the person renting the house stating the problems he has with leaks. Make sure the contractor is competent and willing to guarantee his work. The slate roof doesn't look bad, it's the...

God does not exist - discuss

An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that evolution had created. "What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!", he said to himself. As he was walking along the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. When he turned to see what the...

Rain dripping on bay window sill

It's a lead roof that has not visible signs of an internal drain/pipe so the water has to run somewhere and that is over the edge. Is there a small pipe running out of the fascia above the window? If so this may be blocked, forcing the water to run over. The noise is probably more...
