Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

You have started a task and proceeded with it until you can no longer complete with out asking for informed advice, the upshot of your question has flagged up the fact that you unwittingly have broken the legal requirement to notify your work prior to starting and gaining approval to commence...

    Radial Circuit - Comments pleas

That's the most sensible response I've read on here or on any other 'DIY' forum. Keen and skilled DIY'ers are more than capable of working to and often above the standards needed.

    Radial Circuit - Comments pleas

Blimey, you're brave to ask that question. I had a similar question and got a shed-load of flak from some forum members.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

PrenticeBoyofDerry - No worries - we're all grown ups here. Since cable wasn't wired in, it's now removed so apart from shower mounted and plumbed in it's all back to original. Some local electrician will get my business now.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Cheers. Makes one wonder what's the point in DIY stores since we're not allowed to do anything anymore.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Listen - I admit to not knowing about the notify building planning or whatever they're called but I merely asked about a CU related question. I'm not an electrician but I am a keen DIY'er with a sound knowledge of physics and basic electrical theory. Perhaps all the hundreds of other forum...

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Is the OP telling us things which are not true? Wished I hadn't bothered asking now if I thought I'd be getting this much flack. I don't mind constructive criticism but (you know who you are) don't cast aspersions on my education, knowledge or ability. I asked a question to which some kindly...

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Cheers for the info and heads up. I won't proceed until all this notifiable stuff is out the way.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

The bathroom was basically removing old suite and fitting new bath, basin and wc using existing pipes. The electric shower cable isn't connected up either end ie not shower or CU but has been fed along a route that enables the electric shower to be connected by sparky.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Reason I got an RCBO was after reading a similar question on another forum run by a certain large DIY and trade retailer. I should have gone to this forum first.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Yes - it is DIY (have followed current regs up until now) and will be notified. Trouble is I'd already bought an RCBO last year which is still wrapped up unused. I was trying to plan ahead. The plan was to use same make of component as the CU, ie Hager.

Should I fit an RCBO or a MCB?

Hi, just recently refitted bathroom and fitted a new 9kw Triton shower with 10mm twin & earth and a 50amp Crawford pull switch (nicely designed to help fit bulky 10mm twin & earth cable) I then bought a Hager RCBO (CU is Hager unit) but noticed it was taller than the existing MCB's plus there is...

Reposition plug socket for new cooker hood/extractor

Good photo trick. :D That would work but there is a return flange on the chimney so tin snips might have to come out. I've had a look at the original cables feeding the socket and there's no slack so either way I think I've got to extend them or place into ceiling void then run extension down...

Reposition plug socket for new cooker hood/extractor

My thoughts exactly. From a time/money aspect I can see why there are suggestions of leaving it in place and in other circumstances I would simply move it slightly and replace with a shiny socket but from asthetic reasons - hidden and uncluttered is the way to go. Cheers Doc

Reposition plug socket for new cooker hood/extractor

Good idea but I really want the area around the hood uncluttered as the rest of the kitchen will be smooth and modern. The only plug sockets I want on show are the usual work-top height ones for kettle, toaster etc. Many thanks Doc

Reposition plug socket for new cooker hood/extractor

Thanks for the replies/advice. Here's where the hood chimney will be positioned. You can see why I need to move this socket. I realise it's not firmly fixed I was merely demonstrating where it will be positioned. Luckily the chimney is a trim panel only. There is a separate flexi pipe that feeds...

I like the way you think. Would save a ton of work too. :D Doc

Reposition plug socket for new cooker hood/extractor

Hi all, Been planning a remodel of the kitchen and replaced the old cooker hood with a shiny new one. However the old design had a cupboard bridging unit which hid the plug socket for the old hood but since the new hood doesn't use panel, I don't want an ugly socket smack bang next to a...
