    Patio repointing

Thanks. Is there any difference between the brands available or are they all largely similar?

    Patio repointing

I've previously used Easyjoint for patios, but now I am doing narrow paths as opposed to a large area, I think it'd be better if I used a more standard route (the issue with EasyJoint being that as the paths end up adjoining the garden there's a fair bit of potential for spillover) The problem...

    Thin cracks in Kitchen ceiling?

Does that actually work? Surely there's some edges that are clearly visible on the ceiling even after you've painted over it?

    Thin cracks in Kitchen ceiling?

I expect as much! But every few years how do I fix them? (Or do I just learn to ignore them?)

    Thin cracks in Kitchen ceiling?

Thanks - these a minor cracks with no depth (smooth to touch, etc), but best practice is to make them deeper before re-filling? It makes sense if so, but I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing! Any particular fillers? Do I re-plaster or just use polyfilla or similar?

    Thin cracks in Kitchen ceiling?

Hi all, I have some very minor cracks (no depth to them, they just look ugly) on my kitchen ceiling which was plastered a few years ago - there's a couple, one above where the radiator sits, and one running to a loft hatch - neither are deep or long. When it comes to fixing these up, is it...

    EasyJoint - stopping spillover?

Hi all, I have used EasyJoint in the past and it has seemed to work fine, but I wondered it there was a particular trick when it comes to using it on narrow paths (where one side goes onto the lawn and the other into a gravel pit) - or if for things like paths (quite long, but only one slab...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

A conclusion: Stripped paint (quite a bit in the end), use filler and re-paint. Has held up so far so will give it a bit more time and touch up some other areas but generally think it's fixed and in a condition that I can live with. Thanks for all the help, sorry for all the posts.

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Actually I have another stupid question! Does the filler (once dry) need an initial mist coating/primer before painting over with the zinnser?

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Haha! Okay it was just incase there was another obvious thing that people might do to cause this to happen when applying the new paint. Cheers

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Sorry - on the coving is it the same principle? Scrape off and filler? Just looking at the various patches on the ceiling (there’s more than a few spots) and it’s clear that when I get the bathroom done I’ll get it re-done from scratch. Also given that this was previously paint that was firmly...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Ahaha - sorry - it's been a long day - that makes sense I think Homebase do it too, my nearest Wickes are not very near and both are situated in horrible locations to get to on a Saturday. Thank you

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

I think this is where I went wrong first time around then, I scraped off flaky stuff, but for the paint that looked okay I just assumed I could paint over it (which is what I thought I was told...). Anyway, will see if I can find anyone selling the tub as opposed to the tube locally... Actually...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

So just go over the top of the flaking paint with a surface filler? and then paint that? It's an idea although would it be as effective on the coving? My preference would be sanding, as I have sandpaper (despite the mess it'll make) but I'll see if I can find somewhere local that might have...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

I did! but thanks for checking as you never do know what obvious steps I would miss out. So, essentially would that work - scrape off the flaking paint, quick sand (fine paper? or coarse? I used fine initially...) and paint over again as long as the surface is still reasonable? (the...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

I have decided to not touch this for the rest of the day, there's other patches emerging so... it would seem I would have been best sanding everything down and then starting from plaster and working my way back up? I've seen some suggestions about flaking paint about scraping the loose paint off...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Haha - 'let us know how you get on' So, I made the fatal blunder of not looking properly up close at the ceiling before I started, and it was more cracked than I first though (whereas I thought it was one section, it was actually more like one section of the en-suite didn't have...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

I’m going to replace the fan shortly - but I wanted to do the ceiling as it started to bother me… Always tend to pay more and hope that it’ll last and work better, the current fan was what was put in when the house was built - so not my choice!

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Haha - when I looked at the house I had a quick peek in the loft, both extractors ran into the wall - good stuff, I thought, at least the basics are covered. By the time I'd moved in mice had taken up residence in the loft and trashed the ducting to the wall as they were using it as a nesting...

    Re-painting Bathroom ceiling (flaking paint)

Well, it's not obviously damp (there's no smell or obvious residue) but if it's not an age thing then you'd think it was that the moisture was not being cleared out well enough? There is a window so maybe I just start opening that post shower... Vent is in the ceiling, it's an old manrose fan...
