    Timber sliding gate joinery advice

Thanks guys, I'll probably stay away from electric. Not least because doing it safely looks quite expensive! I'm surprised the motors don't have a resistance sensor in though. Any thoughts about the joinery? :D

It was one of these :) https://www.theelectricgateshop.co.uk/Sliding-Gate-Hardware-Kits Seems a well thought out kit, happy with the quality. It's all Italian: http://www.combiarialdo.it/en/home.php

    Timber sliding gate joinery advice

Agreed it would be preferable, but I couldn't make one (I can't weld) and the local gate man quoted a few grand to supply the frame alone! Sorry, I've updated the drawing so it's accurate. There's no join :) Agreed. The motor kit comes with safety detection edges and laser breaks are...

    Timber sliding gate joinery advice

Hi there, I'm fairly hands-on and I'm building myself a sliding driveway gate out of timber this winter. My granddad was a joiner and he's taught me a few things, but I'm no expert so wanted to run my plan by the more experienced guys in this group. My rough plan: A 6m wide sliding gate...

I did! Some examples I saw didn't, some did, but I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry and it seemed like the best way.

Thanks very much for the reply (y) I thought that might be the case, but I've never done this before so definitely worth checking with those who have. Thanks!

Lintel above garage door (Single skin)

Hi guys, I've got a garage that I'm building this summer (build thread here) and I'm ready to finish off over the garage door. I'll be doing this myself, as the bricklayer can't complete it (long story!) It currently looks like this, with a final few bricks to add: A few questions...

    PD: 2.5m height...from which point?

Planing quiz time I need a new outbuilding to be under 2.5m high, to be within permitted development. I have a level slab on a sloping site. Where would I measure 2.5m from? 1) The lower end of the surrounding ground 2) The top of the slab 3) The higher end of the surrounding ground I'd...

Yes, there's DPC under the first course. I'm sure there could be damp, but it's only a garage. To protect against damp though, I've: Separated the slab from the surrounding ground with a moat of gravel Sat the bricks at the edge of the slab The garage is enclosed by a tall fence on two sides...

A slow update, Coronavirus hampered some plans / materials and then my focus was taken up by other projects, but we're back in action today! These were my original plans for the base, with a deeper slab and edge: IMG_20200511_080020 by helvellyn950m posted 23 Jul 2020 at 5:49 PM HOWEVER the...
