Been told I need a new boiler...?

Now had 4 quotes all come in around the same, so think I will bite the bullet especially as I was offered 10m 0% which makes it a bit easier to swallow! To get the 10yr warranty you do have to satisfy certain requirements, which as mentioned, include a flush, filter install and ensuring the...

Planted these 6ft root ball red cedars, couple of questions...

Im hoping so! I plan to just have a 3m high dense box wall across the rear of the property, and have it regularly maintained. On the other side of the back wall is a car park for the flats, so dont really see how it could offend anyone.

Been told I need a new boiler...?

We inherited a Worcester 28CDI when we moved, which had been installed in 2004, but serviced annually. Its been leaking for the past few weeks, about half a pint a week. We had it serviced at the weekend and was told we needed to replace it as the parts are no longer available. Im not exactly...

Planted these 6ft root ball red cedars, couple of questions...

Planted them across a 10m wall at end of garden in the hope of building a screen across, although appreciate this may take a few years to establish. Went for these as they are meant to grow approx 50cm per year, and was advised to plant 1 per meter. Have been a little concerned about their...

Suggestions to reattach stone fireplace to wall

That was how it was originally done, I assume that when you buy these surrounds the fixings come pre-attached, blued.. the stone upright fell away from the glue, which is why Im trying to find a more secure method. Think I will jest settle for using blots thorugh the sides of the uprights, then...

Suggestions to reattach stone fireplace to wall

Recently moved into a house that has some form of stone fire surround which recently decided to come away from the wall! Its not the fixing to the wall that has come away, but the fixing to the fireplace itself. The metal concealed fixing brackets looked like they were connected to the stone...

Best way to trim 20mm from bottom of fence?

Ive just bought a multitool and have thought of that, but thought a grander, with more grunt, may cut through it easier.. Once its done its done, and will save me loads of time when I come to redo next year...

Best way to trim 20mm from bottom of fence?

I did consider masonry paint, but wonder if I tried this afterwards, it would not adhere to the conc if stained with a creosote type stain I am using... I wonder if I fixed a timber plank across the bottom, opposite side to cut, may this make it more stable and less prone to splintering? I...

Best way to trim 20mm from bottom of fence?

I want to retreat my fence, but am worried about staining the concrete. I was fortunate first time around to be able to treat the panels before they got fixed to the frame. The only way I can think of, is to insert something underneath the fence to catch any drips, but I dont have any gaps...

    Can mushrooms damage artifical grass

Contemplating putting artificial grass down, and wondered if the groundworks involved (membrane, sand etc) would prevent mushrooms from penetrating the grass? Our current lawn, put down nearly 2 years ago, suffered heavy mushroom growth last year, presumably due to decaying roots from a...

Aluminium frame for diy conservatory warm roof construction

I stumbled upon eurocell on Friday and have asked for a couple of quotes so be interesting to see how much they want to charge to fit. In my head £250 a day per man and 2 men for 2 days should be more than enough but somehow I don't think so! I have asked another place that makes their own...

Aluminium frame for diy conservatory warm roof construction

Apart from the likes of guardian/supalite and others, that use a lightweight aluminium frame to support their tiling system, I cant seem to find anywhere that supplies just the frame. Anyone know if these can be bought, so I can have my own roof constructed, rather than using one of their...

    EPDM roof on leanto conservatory?

Looking at what some of the suppliers fit, i.e, the lightweight tiled roofing systems, they seem to have a lightweight aluminium frame, upon which they build a deck to support the insulation and tiles... I cant seem to find these to buy for a diy build. There must be timber alternative...

    EPDM roof on leanto conservatory?

I was doing some research last night, warm roof being the preferred method, and my only concern would be the weight of the roof... ok on the wall side, but what about load on the upvc front to the building? You cant see from these (dark) images, but there is a dwarf wall perhaps 3ft or all...

    EPDM roof on leanto conservatory?

Looking to replace poly roof and did wonder about having a pitched felt roof or epdm, rather than other types of solid roofs. I was chatting to a chippie mate who said he could construct the timber frame for the roof, then I could either get torch on felt or epdm, then insulate and board out...

    Thoughts on an extension...

Just wondering of the feasibility of an extension idea... it all may be pie in the sky, and may remain a dream, but have to start somewhere! We've not been in the house long, but thinking long term, as doubt we could ever afford to buy a larger house. Ive provided some rough sketches and some...
