Leaking garage roof - temp repair

Friend of mine has a leaky garage roof, we can't replace it just yet. It's a flat felt garage roof on ply boards. Could we pour and spread a few tins of black jack on it for the meanwhile do you think?

    Painting around taped carpet edges

Hello, any tips on how to avoid that painted tape sticking to the woodwork when painting? Usually I pull carpets up, but this is on our stairs, so I've tucked the tape down the edges, but am finding that possibly when I remove the tape, I'm going to have lines around it where you'll see the...

    Dishwasher using too much salt

A Zanussi ZDT21006FA dishwasher is going through salt. I can fill the sump up and it'll be gone in days. I've inspected the cap and gasket, cleaned it all out but usage is still high. Any suggestions?

    Bolt through door handles

I'm replacing all of my internal door handles with bolt through. I've done one so far but it still feels a bit loose, so I may need to use the three wood screws each side, which defeats the object in a way. Any advice? Thanks.

    Purdy Sprig

I'd like another 1" Sprig, but can't find anyone stocking that size now for what ever reason that may be. What other brushes have that small stock/narrow thin tip like the Sprig? Is there a Wooster which is like the Sprig? Thanks.

    Roll of roofing felt

Some time ago I bought a roll of felt for something, it has (flatish) stone chippings bonded to it. I can't find it again anywhere. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and where I might get it?

    Decanting paint

With most woodwork paints there is a significant saving to be made if buying a 2.5L can over a 1L can. Do you think it'd cause any issues with the paint if decanting some from the 2.5L into a 1L can which was recently used? Holding a 1L can would be far easier whilst painting!

    Re doing sealant

Once the old sealant has been removed, if there's the odd bit here and there which I can't get off, but generally isn't in the way, would this be ok to seal over? So it isn't in the way as such, just some old sealant underneath, may come into contact with the new, but well below the surface. Thanks.

    Satinwood Paint

Hello, I've for a few years as a DIYer been using Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood. I find the Dulux to be good, but difficult to work with to get that good finish. I find it can run easily, then it pulls when trying to brush out those runs. I use Purdey Monarch Elite and Sprigg brushes. I've...

    Completion Certificate

About 7 years ago I had a single storey extension. It was done under Full Plans. A building inspector visited and inspected the stages he wanted to see and was happy with everything. At the end, I called to let them know I'd finished, they said ok fine. I asked if they wanted to visit again and...

Fixing a toilet to tiled floor

I've got a toilet to fix into the floor, the thing is instead of the screws fixing into a bracket which would be fixed into the floor, it uses two screws which go into the floor at an angle. I won't be able to get a drill in from one side because the drill would touch the wall before the correct...

    Diamond tile drill bit

Hi, I've got an Erbauer diamond tile drill bit which I bought recently. I've done porcelain 7 tiles with it and I'm trying to do number 8, but it looks as if the diamond has worn off the the drilling face of the bit. Now there is about 10mm of the shank which has diamond along it, so I did...

    Replacing basin waste

Hi, I installed a new sink in my bathroom and used the waste which came with the tap. It leaks between the unglazed underneath and the rubber seal. Rather than mess about with silicone I want to replace the waste with one which has a tapered seal which sits underneath. As the plug hole has been...

What to expect to pay for single garage roof

Good evening. So I have a single garage, felt on top of ply boards, it leaks. I patch it up when I can, ideally it needs to be replaced, but it's having the time to do it these days. What would I expect to pay to have it removed, boards replaced with OSB 3 and the covering with EPDM? Thanks.

    New Paint Roller

    Illuminated bathroom mirror

Hello, just after some thoughts on illuminated bathroom mirrors. Most of the ones available appear to only hang on two screws, via a keyhole type arrangement, rather than being able to be actually fastened down. I'm not sure how confident I'd feel about having a mirror like this, as wouldn't it...

Tiling around or to a basin/unit

Hello all. I'm fitting myself a new bathroom. I've got a basin which sits on top of one of those sink cupboard units, should I fit that up to the wall and tile around it all, or tile the wall then fit the unit up to the wall? Thanks.

    Refurbing a towel rail

I've got a Stelrad chrome plated towel rail which has perhaps some rust marks at the back of the rails. I need to get the rail off to tile the bathroom, so I was wondering if you think it's at all possible to refurb this rail? It was quite expensive, as good ones are, but not sure I like any of...

Tap headgear grub screw - snapped allen key

Today I tried to remove a bath lever tap, but the allen key snapped in the grub screw. The tap is a Sottini lever type. No real access to it. Apart from taking the tap off and chucking it away, any advice as to where to go now? Thanks.

    Laying dense blocks

Hello chaps, have a small project at home to do where I'll be laying a few courses of dense blocks. Now, as these aren't as light as aerated blocks, what is the best way to ensure the weight of the block doesn't squish the mortar out and away, unlike with the light weight of a regular brick...
