Stihl MS181 chainsaw stops after about 30sec

I could do with some help with my Stihl MS181 chainsaw which starts OK, but then stops after about 30secs, regardless of if I leave it to warm up in idle or rev it up as soon as it will take it. I have cleaned the air filter and checked the fuel filter, both look ok. I have heard that it...

Panasonic TV cross hair in centre of screen

My Panasonic th-50px70ba plasma tv shows a faint crosshair in the centre of the screen , approximately 1 inch in length. I can't think of anything that would have been left on the screen to burn in like that. Any ideas what it might be?

    Temporary Ground anchor suggestions please

Following the storms a few months ago, which destroyed both of my 24'x12' field shelters, I am keen on the replacements staying put. So, I am looking for a reasonably priced way of providing some added storm-resistance. I have looked at http://www.groundbolt.co.uk/field_shelters.html, but...

The dual flush button on my cistern will sometimes stick down. Annoying when on a water meter. It is similar to this...

Where to get PVCu trim cheap?

I have a nice flat area of my (largish) garden and I want to mark out a court. Proper line marking equipment is too expensive and I have been experimenting with cheap emulsion and a garden sprayer - a bit slow and needs re-doing regularly. I had a bit of pvcu trim left over from a project...

    Identify this part please

I found this mystery part in my garden. I think it might have dropped off my Mountfield ride-on mower, but can't be sure. Everything seems to function as normal on the mower as far as I can tell. Any ideas what it is and where it belongs?

    Ramp suggestions please

I would like to drive my 4x4 plus horse trailer off the drive onto my garden so I can turn it around and park back on the drive. Currently the lawn/field I have to drive onto is about 30cm higher than the drive. There is a bit of an earth ramp, so I can get up but it is beginning to get rutted...

    Faulty toilet cistern

A newish toilet cistern has been pretty rubbish since fitting: 1. Sometimes, the top button sticks, so the toilet flushes continually 2.Sometimes the float doesn't drop down after flushing, so it never refills Is it just a testament to the crappiness (pardon the pun) of most...

Sliding mitre saw <£150 recommendations please

I've searched this forum and any previous posts on this subject are quite old. I am in the market for a sliding mitre saw for occasional diy work, ideal if it could cut metal as well, but not critical. More important is accurate cuts. I don't want to spend more than £150.

    Ride on mower maintenance

I would really like to do more of my own maintenance on my ride on mower (Mountfield 1430). The user manual is rubbish - anything more complicated than filling it with fuel is "refer to dealer". So, some questions: 1. Is there a tech manual I can get hold of somewhere? 2. Any tips on...

    Sticking upvc trim in conservatory

In my conservatory I have a largeish (approx 15cm x 2m) piece of flat upvc trim which covers up what I believe are the roof supports fixed to the house wall. The bottom edge seems secure, but I can't get the top to stay fixed. (I can't see how the bottom edge is fixed without removing it, which...

    Ride on mower slows

My belt-drive mountfield 1430 ride on mower has recently developed this fault: As my normal practice, I put it in top gear and it pulls away fine, but after a minute or two it seems to lose torque (the engine is still producing plenty of power), so much so that it slows to a halt on the first...

    Grass protection mesh

I would like to drive my horsebox (7.5 ton lorry) over my lawn across a grassy field so I can park it out of the way. I have considered building a track, but as part of it would be outside my garden and onto a field (which I own), the thought of getting planning permission is putting me off...

how to fix brakes on mountfield 1430 ride on mower

The brakes on my Mountfield 1430 ride-on mower are supposed to operate when you depress the clutch pedal all the way down, but have stopped stopping me recently. Any clues as to where the brake adjustment is on this model ( or similar ) would be helpful. TIA John
