    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are somewhat converging to a commonplace solution proposed out there. It does not appear they propose 'do nothing' as that solution. In my initial quote on the matter I asked: "While researching on issue of damp, I read from a surveyor the proposed...

    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

Good to know. Interpreting a bit freely, an inch or two off the verges means about the same gap of ~100mm, assuming verges are about 50mm each from outter walls.

    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

I agree on the probabilities of this occurring, which is why I asked of people's real experiences, as I would rather not rely on assumptions :) The amount of shoddy work around me can give the same cowboy builders who made it in the first place, enough work for another century:D I too hope...

    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

Well exactly, this is what I'm trying to establish. If leaves and other matter fall and accumulate or get trapped over time, could they not bridge the two outside wall leaves over DPC and retain dripping water?

    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

Great, so I should not have any concerns about it then in the long run? I'm a little confused as to what course of action should be taken, is this better recommended then? https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/gap-between-2-extension.458884/#post-3644694

    Space/gap between rear semi-detached extensions

Hi, There are a few threads on the subject. However I am no surveyor or builder, so I want some input on what would be the best approach on extension spacing and damp mitigation, based on experience. And if anything to discuss before that wall goes up. The neighbours are building a 4 meter...

    zone valve high pitch noise

I thought it would be straightforward but I cannot find the spare part for Polypipe 2-zone valves? The spare for Honeywell valves is easy to find, however the polypipe brass plate is different and also has a brass pin poking out for the motor to attach. Do you need to buy the entire thing...

    zone valve high pitch noise

It is actually a polypipe but I presume the component is similar or same. So is it a replacement then? Can I just buy the body component alone without the powerhead? edit...

    zone valve high pitch noise

The UFH 2-port polypipe zone valve started making a high pitch whistling noise this winter. As soon as the UFH kicks in the valve opens and hot water goes through. A few seconds later I hear a steady whistle sound that travels through the entire house and drives me nuts. It sounds like those...

    new extension recurring roof leak

The tiles are Redland 49, 100%. Sorry if this wasn't clear from the previous posts. We tested with a hosepipe and the winner is.....datarebal. Water seeps in under the top tile of the verge and runs down below, dripping into the roof. The tile was also detached from the mortar as in the pics...

    new extension recurring roof leak

Yes, it seems to be on average above 100mm, except from the top tile which is around 100mm https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h5h1zkbo4gfmauw/AABvIvF0C_Ddo89fdKVVQ3lha?dl=0&preview=20201110_152331_combo.jpg

    new extension recurring roof leak

Thanks! Taking the above into account and assuming the vaulted ceiling plasterboard is fixed to the rafter above, I have taken a rise measurement of ~41cm and a length of ~130cm. Adding that to a pythogorean calculator gave me approx. 17.5° Allowing for some error then, the roof is borderline...

    new extension recurring roof leak

The leak is happening in the middle of the ceiling. There is no connection between the extension roof and the cavity of the wall of the existing house. The extension roof joists/beams rest on joists/structure fixed against the outside leaf of the old house wall. I hope it makes sense. Funnily...

    new extension recurring roof leak

Thanks, it sounds like a plan and relatively straightforward to test. I don't mean to stir up any arguments against the trade here but I want some views as to where I stand with roofer who undertook the latest grp works? Since they did not address the leak and have not returned so far?

    new extension recurring roof leak

It's an interesting theory to test, I have thought the same so perhaps I should cover that area. The only lame thought is that should the pitch or headlap not be right, then we should be having spots of ingress in lots more places at the roof. There has been none in 3 years, only this darn part...

    new extension recurring roof leak

Thank you. Can you make this in layman's terms please? :) I am no roofer, although by the time this is over I may need to turn into one

    new extension recurring roof leak

Can you elaborate? Does this apply to the entire roof?

    new extension recurring roof leak

I am inclined to resurrect this thread as still an issue believe it or not! After heavy downpour it takes about 15-20mins and the water starts pooling in area of ceiling plasterboard and drips through cracks. As expected builder did not address the cause of leak and problem kept...

    uPVC external door replacing threshold

I need to replace my stormguard rain threshold and drain bar at the base of the entrance uPVC door. This appears to be locked in place by a black plastic trim/clip on either side of the uPVC base of the door frame. What is this part called and best way to pull out? Am I right assuming this is...
