How Long Would it Take Tiled Floor to Crack Up After Water Leak?

Hi Ken 1.I raised the claim through the insurer of the installer because if I did it on my own insurance policy, I would have been subject to a £250 excess. I had already paid £400 for the washing machine, and don’t see why I should pay any excess due to damage it caused. 2.I informed the...

How Long Would it Take Tiled Floor to Crack Up After Water Leak?

Thanks Ken for the lengthy reply. It’s midnight just now, so I plan to re-read your response during the day when I will be a bit more alert, and can have a better think about things. Cheers.

How Long Would it Take Tiled Floor to Crack Up After Water Leak?

Hi Ken. Thanks for the reply. The surveyor that came out to assess the damage, did place a moisture meter on the wood directly under the washing machine. It had totally dried out (as the leak occurred 4 months previously.) I suppose this evidence goes against the claim by the insurers that the...

How Long Would it Take Tiled Floor to Crack Up After Water Leak?

I am currently trying to get insurers to pay out for a water leak from a washing machine that damaged my tiled floor. When the leak initially occurred I noticed water bubbling up from under the tiles. It dried out, and I didn’t immediately detect any damage to the floor. However, 4 months...

    Yellowed Grout - Tile Mosaic.

Not sure why this particular section has become so yellowed. It’s the that boxes the cistern in. I don’t smoke, and can honestly say I have not been urinating on it! The unibond stuff looks like quite promising, though a lot of work on mosaic tiles. I will post photos when I’m finished. I’m...

    Yellowed Grout - Tile Mosaic.

I got this stuff. Could this be the solution, or will the grout be discoloured again within a few months?

    Yellowed Grout - Tile Mosaic.

The grout on the tiled mosaic area above my toilet cistern has become quite badly discoloured, and I'd like to try and sort it, if possible. Can I paint over the discoloured grout areas with some sort of white paint? If so, what type of paint should I use? Thanks in advance.

    Rusting Heated Towel Rail

Hi. I have a heated chrome towel rail that has rusted. I tried to remove the rust using steel wool, however 'rusted pit marks' remain, as you can see from the photos. Can you think of anyway I can cover up these 'pit marks, or is the only solution here to replace the towel rail? Thanks.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

There was slight water damage in kitchen, 2 loose tiles and hairline grout cracks and the first tiler recommended replacing everything including sub floor and ripping up all the expensive porcelain tiles. New guy recommended a ‘patch up’ and suggested that ripping up everything is nuts.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

@hertsdrainage My whole building development is a ‘bodge.’ This seems to be a common and growing theme in the UK. It was always tiled around the toilet, even when built. @Fireman, I can’t remember precise quotes but he knocked 150 quid off for not removing toilet, and proposed a more economical...

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

I’ve got a cheaper quote of another tiler that I’m happy with, and have agreed that the toilet should not be moved to cut costs. The toilet was always tiled around anyway from day one. There is no noticeable damage to subfloor.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

I’ve managed to get a cheaper quote and agreed that the toilet should not be moved (to cut costs.) The toilet was never tiled under, even when this place was built.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

@Notch7. I have always tried to employ local tradesmen, as often they tell me that they are struggling to get work in the face of growing imported competition. However, this isn’t the first time I’ve been given quotes that don’t match the job required.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

@Motman, I have to admit even with my limited knowledge of tiling costs, 300 quid for 2.62 metre squared seems very excessive!?

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

Sorry I can clarify that it’s a small bathroom floor of only 2.6m squared that needs tiled.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

I was just thinking. The approximate square metres here is 1.72x1.52=2.6 metres squared. Say the average tiling costs in this area was £30 per square metre. The total cost based on area would be £78.43. Am I missing something here? Even with moving the pan temporarily, I still don’t get the...

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

@Lampchamps. Does not include tiles. That is his best price for labour, grout, adhesive and temporarily moving the pan.

300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

Hi Just had tiler out provide a quite to tile a small bathroom with a floor area of 5ft by 5ft6. He quoted £300 to tile this small area and said that that he would have to temporarily remove the toilet. I am in ‘the North’ where tradesman costs tend to be cheaper. Is this a realistic price...

    Help! Kitchen Water Leak.

It was the washing machine as expected. However, they were not 100% sure of the precise cause. Anyway, I got a new washing machine installed for free, as the solution.

I can’t pull the machine out. Anyway, the people who installed it, will have a look at it on Wednesday.
