We want to maintain maximum ceiling height for bedrooms in roof space and need to insulate under rafters. If we could get rid of diagonal bracing members measuring 25x100x1000, could we replace these with heavy duty steel straps 5mm thick x 30mm x various lengths. It would make it much easier...

Nailing every tile ?? What is current roofing practice ?

We are stripping old (1980's) concrete pantiles, putting in new roof trusses and re-tiling with same pantiles. I was reading something on DIYdoctor about installing velux that surprised me ... the blogger said that all slates are usually nailed but that tiles are generally laid on each other...

I'm researching replacement windows for a conversion ... including glass doors for a gap which already exists which is 5 m wide. Cheap side opening garage style doors supplier recommend ?

Can anyone recommend a door manufacturer of large garage style doors, sideways opening rather than up and over ... the opening will be a little taller and wider than normal garage doors though. Cheapness rather than long term quality as these doors will only be needed for about 10 years. Cheers

A good reason why is ground floor toilet is on a step ?

Hi Edwardian terraced houses with loo on ground floor in a "lean to" at back of house; the toilets are all on one step up from the usual floor level of the ground floor. I would prefer to get rid of the step; but might there be a good reason why they have been constructed that way, or was it...
