Hi all, I have a really old gas meter, from around 1979 (as it says on the front) it is situated in my cupboard with electricity meter. I couldn't get it changed for a smart meter because the way it is fitted. Anyway, the past week there has been a funny smell in the cupboard, like a fishy...

    Lights not dimming?

Hey all, just bought 4 pricey LED GU10 dimmable bulbs. Installed them in the kitchen light and whilst they are nice and bright they aren't dimming. Could this be an issue with the dimmer switch? Possibly not being compatible with LED? Or the actual spotlight bar itself? Here are the specs for...

Dowsil 785 or CT1 white silicone?

Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone can let me know if the 785 has a gloss finish? I cant recall if it was the CT1 white silicone I used for my bathroom or the 785 white silicone. I'm after the glossy finish rather than dull. Or do they both have a glossy finish? Thanks

    Accidently skimmed over bracket holes!

I forgot to leave screws in the bracket holes for radiator and blinds. Just wondering if there are any techniques for locating them? I can either scrape off the skim or redrill the holes. More inclined to scrape off the skim.

    Cleaning radiator with hose

Hi all. I've taken my radiators off and had them stored in a garage. When I took them out they had quite a bit of dirt outside and in as well as dust from the years before. Is it safe to assume I can just hose them down outside before I put them back up? cheers

Patchy painted wood? (waterbased undercoat and satin topcoat)

Hi all, My dad painted the wood in the hallway. On some of the architrave I noticed areas were uneven with dark patches. I applied more topcoat (satinwood) though when it dried it was still a bit patchy. I can only assume he may have watered down the undercoat too much and applied the topcoat...

Hi all, I removed the old skim coat in the shower area exposing the old sand and lime. Had the plasterer skim over that with some bonding. Should have got it properly skimmed really, though there's no time. I want to tank this area. I need to prime it first with the aquaseal tanking primer...

Sealing the plaster in shower before tiling?

Hi all, I did a search on this and it seems most of the questions are in regards to plasterboard. I have solid (clinker) walls in my shower area. Once old tiles are pulled off I will give the walls a skim. Though do I need to waterproof the plaster with some sort of application before tiling...

Kitchen worktop joint? Straight cut or miter (router+jig)?

Hey all, I'm getting a kitchen worktop fitted. The carpenter recommends a straight cut with circular saw as the edges are square not rounded, though they seem to have a slight edge bevel so not 100% flush. I always thought a routed miter cut using a jig looks better though is this only needed...
