    Concrete Slab

I was planning on making a concrete slab tomorrow to form the base of a new shed. Temperatures overnight are forecast to drop to -2° C. Am I likely to cause a curing/freezing problem as the concrete sets or will it be fine if I cover it with a couple of sheets and some polythene over the top?

    O Rings on mixer tap

Does anyone know how I can get at the O rings on this mixer tap? It leaks only when being used so it's not the cartridge itself. Or do I suggest a new tap to this customer?

    Dodgy Plastic Pipe

I was called to an emergency water through ceiling job today in a 5 year old bungalow. The central heating flow pipe had burst in the loft. Apparently there was burst on this same pipe about 600mm from this burst a couple of months ago, but I didn't cut out the split that time. Have any of you...

    Mistral Oil Combi Leaking

I was called out to a Mistral 70/90 Combi, 2005 model, last night. It was leaking either from the main waterway in the boiler or from the thermal store for the hot water. Rang Mistral who say either part no longer available, but they may be able to weld up any holes or splits if I can take it...

[code:1] A customer rang me on Saturday evening: his Thermecon System 100/150 oil boiler had gone BANG, blown the casing off and the combustion chamber cover plate had been blown upwards/outwards and now has a nice curve to it. [see photo] The boiler continued to fire and fill his utility...

    One Pipe System?

A customer has complained of poor heating performance at several radiators, especially at the extremeties of the house. I took up some floor boards today and found this: Am I right in thinking this is a manifold for a single pipe system in 10mm copper? There doesnt seem to be any pattern to...

    DotGov Directory?

I was contacted by a company today called "DotGov Directory" www.dotgovsuppliesandservices.com . They claim to be able to give me work for local authorities etc, and all I need to do is 'register' for £99. Has anyone one else heard of them, or even signed up with them. Would it be quicker if...

    Unvented Discharge Pipe

I was called out on an Insurance Emergency last night - leak in airing cupboard in house <1 year old. It turned out to be the tundish on an unvented cylinder. The D2 pipe was connected via solvent weld 32mm pipe to the soil stack. Strange as I thought you needed copper only as it is capable...

    My fridge is.... too cold

I have a NEFF integrated fridge, sorry, don't know the model number (no freezer compartment) that is too cold. Obviously it is turned to the warmest setting on the main dial, but still manages to freeze my salad. Any suggestions, other than leaving the door open a bit or drilling a hole :?:

Is this against Part L building regs???

Been to fit a heated towel rail for a chap today. Open vented y plan. Noticed that he only had one TRV in the property, but our friends at British Gas had replaced his boiler 3 weeks ago. I am OFTEC registered, no dog card, but would have insisted on fitting trv's on existing system if the...
