    Cable leaving house to underground.

Just a quickie. A cable connected to a house ring, it leaves the ring as a spur, using armoured cable, then goes underground to a shed or garage. Does any cable, as it leaves a house, need additional fuse protection at that point - is there a reg stating so? Is the mcb/rcbo at the CU good...

    Sub Consumer Unit

No space for a separate mainswitch. Mainswitch is CU incomer. Sub CU needed. Can the one mainswitch incomer on the existing CU also switch the sub CU? That is, one switch does the two CUs. If so, what is the usual way of doing it?

    Surge Protection Device (SPD)

I believe in new installations to the 18th, a SPD has to be installed unless a risk assessment is carried out and says "no". If you can do not to do the risk assessment then the SPD become mandatory. Is that so?

    Can they can't they

GasSafe man told me they that they can only connect onto the output terminal of an existing FSU, not install a new one or even unscrew it - by law. He was adamant they cannot run a cable back to a CU or anything like that. I am unaware of any such law.

    DP RCBOs

Saw these DP RCBOs that fit into one CU slot, which are reasonably new on the market. Look neat as they will replace a simple standard mcb. Anyone had any problems with them? https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WYNHXS1B20.html RCBO-AFDD that take up two slots are even better protection. But...

CU and meter in bathroom cupboard

Know of people who want to convert a part of their garage to a downstairs bathroom, probably a toilet and shower room, accessed from the house not the garage. The Electric CU and meter is in the garage which would be in the new bathroom. A cupboard could be built around them giving access via...

    Twin flue pipes

In a twin flue pipe setup with a boiler in a well ventilated basement (area of basement air vents larger than air intake pipe), only the exhaust pipe needs to be taken to outside with the air for combustion drawn in via the well ventilated basement. Common in small commercial setups. Do many...

    Diversity Factor

Electric UFH heating being considered in a 63A supply. Using diversity it still is over the limit, so more inventive means have to be used. The two socket rings are being dropped to 16 amp, not the usual 32A. The main ring will have mainly a TV and a vacuum cleaner plugged in occasionally. The...

    Earthing CU

New CU in an all electric flat, no gas pipes. Plastic water mains. CU has double RCD all circuits RCD protected. Only earth cable is the incoming earth cable. AIUI, no need to have any earth cable from the CU to any pipe as nothing to clamp onto. Correct?

    Manrose 12 v fan

Manrose 12v fan with transformer in the ceiling unable to access. Will a Vent Axia 12v fan work with the Manrose transformer? Any experiences of this? Transformer does the timer run on function, with the fan a bare bones 12v motor. Thx.

    Sub CU

There will be electric heating in each room, seven of them. A new CU is being installed for the whole flat. The idea is to have a sub CU off the main CU holding only the mcbs for the electric heating, so the heating is all in one unit. On the main CU, is an 63A RCD feeding the sub CU OK?

    Magnetic filter

Saw one of these fitted on a boiler change. Out of convenience/expediency two small new rads were returned between the boiler and filter. The filter was not the last in line before the boiler. Any corrosion problems with these new rads would be picked up by the filter anyhow via circulation...
