Clumps of paint and how to prevent them when using a roller

I haven't done much decorating, and in my latest attempt a few of these clumps of paint formed. (The paint is still drying, which I assume why there's a dark circular ring around it) I used a Harris roller and Dulux paint. What are these called and how do I prevent them happening?

    Would you use this paint?

I bought some paint from Amazon in late August but didn't inspect it when it arrived. I opened it today, and the lid had come loose and some paint had come out. However, it was still sealed in a plastic outer. What do you think?

What would happen if you used Zinsser Bin and a water leak reocurred?

Or any stain blocker/oil-based undercoat etc Would a stain from the water leak simply appear again in the same place? Or would the water be "trapped" behind the Zinsser Bin and need to find somewhere else to escape?

Valve between oil tank and Atkinson Tankmaster

Is it possible for a fault to develop with the Atkinson Tankmaster where the valve between it and the tank is permanently open (even when the plunger is in the closed position)? If so, how would you check if this has happened (other than consuming oil, pulling the plunger to take a reading and...

Paint coming off when wiping down walls with water

Hi, I haven't done any decorating before, so thought I'd start with a small utility room. I was wiping down this wall with water and a sponge, and noticed the paint coming off. It wasn't peeling off, just being absorbed by the sponge so when I rinsed it the water in the washing up bowl turned...

    Cold water tank constantly filling

Hi, I was having a shower earlier and the cold slowed to a trickle. Before that, the last time any larger amount of water was used when I did the washing up last night. Went upstairs. On the landing, I heard a lot of water flowing and through perhaps the tank had burst. Went into the loft...

Any idea what these horizontal, slightly jagged cracks could be?

I've had various people look at the house. Before buying it: Mortgage survey - no mention Building survey - not specifically mentioned. Of general slight cracking, said it was considered to be "due to shrinkage of materials" with no action necessary apart from "making good before...

    Oil pipe leak

I suspect this may be a stupid question, so apologies in advance. If there was a leak in the oil pipe (between tank and boiler), would it leak all the time? Or would it only leak when the boiler is in use?

Should I always see water being held in a rainwater drain?

Recently I had tree root damage to my drains which has now been fixed. Because of this, I was looking down the rainwater drains (which take water from gutter downpipes) and in two of them I can see they are holding water. In another one I can't see any water being held. Is this potentially a...

    Subsidence without external cracks?

Hi, I recently bought a house. After moving here, it was discovered there was tree root damage to the drains which I had fixed. There were quite a few internal hairline cracks so before buying it I got a building survey done which found no evidence of movement. However, since discovering the...
