    Helpful Council LOL

Thanks for all the replies. Been talking to the SE and he says there is no need for building control to be involved in the chimney, but they will be involved for the wall as that does alter the supporting structure. So he is coming to give it a coat of looking at. The chimney is shared above...

    Understanding Step Flashing

I already know about all that but in the example pic (and I no intention at all of using cavity trays to weaken the wall) they are not used and the steps are done with a single piece of lead even the soakers below would not stop ingress of water in the pic as it would run behind them too. Is it...

Is this dry verge done right?

I don't think thats a con I think he is just clueless, and as stated not a roofer. I can't believe he has done that. Would be interesting to see the other gable close up OP to see if he just copied what was already done incorrectly.

    Understanding Step Flashing

Hi Guys, Can someone help with this issue I have? I am building my conservatory and need to flash the roof with a step and cover flashing. I think I know what I am doing but something niggles my mind. Logic suggests that water will run down the flashing face to the angled return parts. It...

    Using HardieBacker Board

Unless you plan on soaking your kitchen it's likely overkill. That said and like you say if it only slightly more to ensure your sub floor doesn't swell in a flood then why not. Your timing looks fine also.

Foil backed plasterboard and building control

It's not a requirement unless you have to meet certain U values. As for the mold issue that depends. The cder the surface compared to room temperature the more likely it is to hit due point and so become wet and so encourage mildew and mold etc.

Paint not adhering, what is happening?

Use his advice instead, oh wait he has none but he can use google at least. A weak pva will bind up any loose surface allowing your paint to bond it not ideal but in the circumstances. it maybe that it has been coated thick in pva and thats why it aint sticking.

Paint not adhering, what is happening?

lol what are you using mold paint? this usually happens if the wall is damp so its not drying. you could try doing a weak pva mix on it then painting it.

i agree as above my mate just had some done by bellway homes and paid 60 a point. that said i think if you shop round you could get that down to around 25-35 depending on how many and how they are laid out in each room. Just make sure you dont get cowboy fitters that dont get the insulation...

Vaillant Ecomax 618 - first not enough, and now too much pressure?

boiler servicing should imo be renamed to boiler inspection and test at best. you get that f code because there has been a drop in pressure. it could be anything but could even be where you have banged pipe with the vac cleaner and its really slowly weeping.

Vaillant Ecomax 618 - first not enough, and now too much pressure?

when it goes off the pressure should stay the same or thereabouts. if it drops a lot then as above the expansion vessel is shot or needs recharging. replace or recharge are pretty simple procedures.
