Extending sink overflow pipe a tiny bit

I had to adjust the down pipe slightly from the sink overflow to fit a vent pipe. This has meant there's an inch gap between the two. What can I buy that will be the quickest/best way of having them join again? Previously the sink pip just poked into the down pipe. I assume that's normal and fine?

Single to double socket off fused spur

I have a washing machine next to the sink in a single plug running to a 13A fused spur. I'm looking at a boiling tap so can I change the single plug to a double and run both off that spur?

    Anyone recognise this shower?

It needs replacing (I think, shower runs cold so Google tells me the thermostat is broken?) but I can't find an identical replacement and ideally I'd want the same one again so the measurements are the same so I don't have to drill any new holes.

    Anyone recognise this fill valve?

The flush button has broken! I got a Flowmasta replacement at Screwfix but I assumed they'd all be universal but of course they aren't. So I guess I have to either find out what this one is or replace the whole full valve? Will it have a brand name on it anywhere?

    Odd lighting wiring

I friend just moved into a new place and noticed the toilet light was on (ever so slightly) even when the light was off. Turned on it would be bright as normal, turned off it would be ever so faintly on. I had a look and took the attached photo. I'm not an electrician so not 100% sure so...

    Nest Thermostat E Installation issue

I thought this would be super simple as the E is battery powered so just isolate power and connect the two wires. No instructions I can find have mentioned anything about switches but my existing thermostat has TWO and the Nest install guide can't cope with two. Here is what I see: Could...

    pipe cap in the wall

Got a new fridge which is slightly older than the last. The wall has a random bolt that stops it fitting. On the other side of the wall is an enclosed space where the downpipe is from upstairs. There looks like a hot water pipe going into the wall where the bolt is. Does anyone recognise the...

    shed roofing felt upside down

Assembled my first shed yesterday. Quite proud. Very level. Only trouble is as I was tacking in the second layer of felt (seen on the front) I noticed it had sparkly bits on top and the other side didn't. Nothing in the instructions about which side goes on top so I had just not thought about...

    Preparing ground for a shed

I removed my old shed which was laid on this concrete. I bought a wooden base for the new shed which is coming in a few days. This is the base: https://www.sheds.co.uk/adley-wooden-shed-base.html Is it safe to assume I can just lay that base over the concrete and that's it? The concrete isn't...

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

I quite like the idea of a wired Nest Protect mainly because I'm a geek but also the nightlight feature will come in handy. For that reason I think I would rather wired than battery. Am I right in thinking what I need to do is run a 3-core (or 2?) wire from that junction box on the left to the...

Safe to leave ceiling lights like this?

I have a ceiling light that I just took down. This is what it looks like underneath: I don't really get what's going on here. Have they just not bothered removing the old rose so just left it in the void, broken in two, for the earth? And the new one just for the two wire feed. The old...

    Rewiring this light socket

I forgot to take a photo before pulling it through the wall. Annoyingly. This is a two-switch socket (upstairs/downstairs lighting). So the cable coming from the top is no problem as that's the ceiling for the top floor. It's the two coming from the bottom that I'm a bit confused with. I...

    Replacing ceiling fixture

I have a room with two ceiling lights lit by one switch. Here is one, the other is the same except has two cables, one coming in and one to the one photographed (I forgot to take a photo of the other one). And here is the new fixture: As you can see the next fixture doesn't have the same...

    Removing a ceiling light fixture

I have two ceiling lights in one room but would rather have just the one. What's the best way to remove the unwanted light? It's furthest away from the light switch. Am I right in thinking the electric cable daisy chains from switch to light 1 and then to light 2? Which is the one I want to...

    Washing machine drain pipe leaking

Our kitchen floor has gotten weirdly bumpy over the last few weeks so we have decided to pull out the washing machine and have noticed there is a slight hole in the drain pipe Is it easy to repair a pipe or am I better off replacing it? It'sa Bosch Exxcel 7 1200 Express. And lastly is the...

    Loose mixer tap

My kitchen mixer tap is loose and I have no idea what I need to tighten. I assume it's something under the sink. I've looked and can see a bolt but that seems tight already. That's all I can see. Is it something under there I need to do? I have spanners.
