    Spray Expanding foam question

You really don't understand women Andy; if you cheat on her with a neighbour, she can move, if you cheat on here with her best friend, she'll blame her friend more than you, but if you cheat on her with her sister, she'll hate her sister for ever, and hate you even more for breaking her family...

Dead right there, but wouldn't be better if they did come with a warning notice.

    Prep For Laminate

Hah, you're right there, it definitely won't move, but no point whatsoever running it up the wall; it's a laminate underlay, and there's no laminate up the wall is there.

    'Tinted' windows?

The films quite cheap, and you can install it yourself; there are several videos on Youtube. You can use the car window tints, or the solar film that was linked in an earlier post. It comes in rolls, but it's only 0.76m wide, so if you windows are wider that this, then you'll end up with a...

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

FFS Noseall, get real, we don't know what type of roof he's got, as even he's not sure. What I posted was for illustrations purposes to try and give the bloke an idea, that's all.

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

It is a big triangle, but you're only messing with 3 rafters, and 2 get doubled, and the middle 1 gets removed, and then supported across the doubled rafters. Have a read of this and look at picture 16 to see if it makes sense, although they don't seem to double the side rafters. And have a...

Lidl Parkside cordless 20v jigsaw disaster

It is possible that you were applying too much downward pressure at the front, rather than allowing the jigsaw to do the work. The damage does suggest that you're not holding it at the right point. No criticism meant .

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

Yup, did; sorry for that noseall. How about calling a truce. The attic trusses are above the ceiling (hence the initial confusion) and the rafters in your roof, are at 400mm centres, so as you want a bigger window, you need to hack off the plaster where you want the window, double up the...

What drill bit do I need for making big holes?

You can get holesaws that are designed ti make access holes in floors etc, and you can then buy the covers to drop in place, but I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're after.

    Fixing toilet with just silicone?

You need mechanical fixings, so you'll need a diamond drill from the likes of 365drills, and you'll then need to silicone base of the pan afterwards to stop water getting under it.

    Removing collar ties?.

Depends. You'd need someone better than me (PM Noseall) but if you've got a spine wall in the centre, then you might be able to tie the roof in lower down on each rafter, side to side. A loft conversion would run a steel under the purlins, and then the load could be transferred down on to it...

    Removing collar ties?.

As those collars are tied in to the rafters, not the purlins, it's more likely they've been added to stop the roof spreading.

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

So how do you suggest he fits a bigger window without knocking a few holes in the plasterboard. I can't wait for the reply on this one. No seriously; I think the OPs set us off in the wrong direction, so we're approaching this from the wrong angle.

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

Sooooooooooo, there's already a room in the attic, and it's got a small window, and you want a bigger one. Sorry, that wasn't evident from the first post. If it's been plastered, then you need to knock off the plaster to get at the joists, and work from there. So back to the last request...

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Who said anything about pushing the air into the house. Earlier posts suggested pipe one side, and pipe with a fan the other. Looks like we may be talking at cross purposes.

    Speaking another Language

Too right Bodd; every other country teaches a second language so that you learn it, we do it half heartedly as a sop. But hey, Google are developing an app that allows two people to converse in different languages, and translates between them. Start Trek universal translator in the making.
