    kitchen floor

I have a suspended wooden floor - floorboards - and I'm going to put down LVT. I know I need a flat surface for this so do I put plywood down on top of the floorboards, or replace the floorboards with plywood? Secondary question - if I board over the floorboards, do I do it all over, even where...

    Covering gap around flue

I've been trying to work out how to reduce/cover the hole in the ceiling where the boiler flue goes. There's about a 2cm gap all the way around the pipe. Hopefully you can see what I mean in the photo. I wondered if there was some kind of collar that could be installed around the flue, flush...

    How to erect a fence?

Okay, first off it's not quite a fence, but... I live on quite a steep hill. The front garden slopes down quite a bit, and the path along the front of the house is raised above that (about 1 foot). There's no handrail or anything, so there's always the danger of falling, not just onto the...

WBP or cement board under floor tiles?

I have approx. 22mm thick floorboards over which I want to tile (I don't know the tile type or thickness yet as we haven't chosen them). Should I put the recommended 12mm WBP down, or (as I've read elsewhere) cement board? If the latter, what thickness should I use, 6mm or 12mm? Thanks.

    Do I need a room/house thermostat

I've had two contradictory opinions provided - one says that despite having TRVs in every room I should have a centrally located, wall based 'stat, the other says the latter isn't needed. My layman-logic says I do, since it will actually switch the boiler off, which TRVs won't (can't), but what...

    Under-floor insulation

Since I'm going to have the floor up anyway... What is my best/easiest/cheapest way of insulating my floor? For reference it's a suspended floor the top layer of which I'm having to replace (see other thread). Access from above only.

    Replacing floorboards

I have to replace an entire floor surface (i.e. all of the floorboards). My intention is to have a wooden floor of some description. What are my options, please? In fact, what are my most, shall we say, "cost effective" options. From what I've been able to find out so far, simple new...
