    Fitting BNC plugs

Recently had a look at my locals cctv system, but it's something outside my area of expertise, so tbh, was sort of fiddling in the wind. Anyway, t'other day one of the broken cameras started again. So re-looking at the back of the video/dvd machine a few of the plugs look a bit battle worn...

    Kitchen drawer removal

Need to get a kitchen drawer out of an antique carcass. The drawer itself, except the front is a one piece moulded tray. It has two metal runners, the one attached to the drawer has like a moulded rivet to keep it attached with a little plastic clip on the end that seems to serve no purpose than...

Yearly Fiscal Predictions. Results After April 2013 Budget.

As a stalwart party member I thought I should release the chancellors thoughts to pre arm all you conservatives out there. IDS may throw a spanner in yet though so these aren't cast in stone although the stone masons have been busy and ten stones are already committed and have been given to the...

    10mm² Cable for a Shower

I need about 12m of 10mm² T&E cable for a shower as the shower is rated at 11kw @230v and 11.5kw @ 240v, but everywhere I've asked for it says they only sell the round stuff. Anyone any idea where I can get some 10mm square T&E cable? I've got about 12m of square 6mm cable but I don't...

    April 1st Already??

This years flying by!! 1.) Regarding an FCU: 2.) Regarding (the invention of Satan) choc block . (Go Wago! Go!!): FFS!!!! 1). If you can't figure out how to remove a fuse from a FCU, get someone in to open your letters to avoid paper cuts. And take up something as a DIY hobby that is far...

    Extractor Fan Positioning

Wondering where I should locate the extractor fan before commissioning the new shower. First thought would be to adapt the current airbrick hole??? Second would be through the gable end, trouble is that's the wall that gets any prevailing wind (gale!). Third option would be to go through...

    VW Polo. Weird 'battery' problem

SWMBO was returning from work one night last week in her S reg. Polo when (I quote) "it was like the battery n everything died, the clock reset and battery light came on". Then she drove home OK. So I go out a couple of days later, check battery connections, looking good n clean. Yet to find...

    High Integrity Earthing

I understand the principle of high integrity earthing at sockets when protecting sensitive equipment. But what happens when you get back to the CU and "circuit 2's" CPC's should be in space # 2 on the CU earth bar. Should those be split? Should that earth bar have 2 connections, again, onto...

    Hand driers fault

Been asked to have a look at a couple of hand driers that, and I quote "if I put the fuse in they start up but they don't stop". Just wondering if anyone has any pointers as to what to maybe look at. Actually, just realised this is a useless post! At this moment in time I don't know the make...

Shower Fan not controlled by light.

I'd like to have my shower fan to be controlled by the shower rather than the light as I do tend to take showers during daylight hours. I know I cannot control the fan directly from the shower circuit but I'm sure I've seen on here methods to utilise the shower circuits powering up to kick in...

98/99 Polo 1.4CL. Which Anti Freeze?

Recently bought this nice little motor and discovered, after buying a tester, that the A/F to water was virtually nil!! Enough to -5°C. Topped up with the blue stuff for now by draining expansion tank and squeezing a litre of Halfords blue in. I'm assuming it was a miniscule amount of Glycol...

One Way To Two Way Switching

Added a new two way switch for hall by front door (S1). S2/S3 is existing two gang switch in hall by lounge. A comment was made by my sparky oppo along the lines of "not sure if you got that right or not". So I've spent a few days while the builders are in trying to figure out any...

    Rover 45 c.d/ radio volume

Okay, I'm lost on this one. The radio gives you a full range of volume settings, but the c.d doesn't. On the c.d 0 is silent and 1 is deafening (not a good idea when you don't like westlife !!!). Theres absolutely nothing in between or higher up the scale. Anyone any clues ?
