    Socket in back of wardrobe

I'm fitting some pax wardrobes and will be fixing them onto the wall. I've a socket behind which im wanting to put into the wardrobe. I'd planned on removing the faceplate from the socket, cutting out the wardrobe and using longer screws to internally mount the socket face plate to the backbox...

Water coming up between grouting - bathroom floor tiles

Recently noticed when standing on a floor tile in the bathroom that there is water coming up from the grouting. I have resealed the shower unit and ensure a towel is down to catch excess but this water has not dried up. I've checked under the floor from the adjacent room and cannot see any...

Stuck (blanking plug) on new radiator (Ed.)

So I bought a new flomasta radiator and all other 3 caps came out fine. The last one started turning and then just stopped. I've tried smashing a screwdriver in and turning it but the inner has just broken away. Tried with a socket over a spanner and this has just rounded it further. Any...

    Holes in plasterboard above boiler

Hi all. Taking floorboards up in the bedroom above the kitchen I noticed these holes in the plasterboard which sits above the boiler. I presume this is purely for ventilation for the boiler? Any issues with this? Noise transmits very easily from downstairs presumably this won't be helping...

    No neutral between light fittings

Replacing the lights in my mums house and the two lights appear to have been joined together with only a earth and live cable. There are neutrals coming into both sets of lights with 3 sets of cables in 1, and 4 sets in the other. Lights are all wired up and appear to be working absolutely...

    Emulsion on radiator? Colour match?

I've a radiator to fit that I'm wanting to match the colour on the walls. I've been unable to find radiator paint that can be mixed to a certain colour, so was wondering if I can just use emulsion? I'll be using zinsser 123 as a primer and have read mixed things on emulsions peeling.

    Adhesive thickness

Hi all, I've had to replace a segment of plasterboard and it had some very thick dot and dab against the brick wall. I was planning on using some plasterboard adhesive foam but don't think it'll bring the board level with the other walls. Would I be better battening, then screwing the boards...

    2 switches to operate light

Hello, I have two switches for the landing light, one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top. I have to turn both of the switches on in order to get the light to work. I presume they're wired incorrectly, but what shall I expect when removing them? How should they be wired? Thanks.

Urgent help - pipe not connected to stopcock?

I've turned off my stopcock and drained all the system. I'm wanting to remove a capped pipe which comes from the airing cupboard presumably from the old boiler. It's now on a combi. I've started to cut the pipe but now it's dripping and has not stopped. I've not cut all the way through it. I...

Gap in roof next to flue

In the loft we have what appears to be a gas flue that exits through the roof. This flue isn't active (as far as I know... fire in lounge was removed). Looking up there is a gap right next to the flue and I can see daylight. I presume this isn't right...?

    Grant Vortex main tank burst

Hi all, My mum has an outdoor grant vortex oil combi boiler which has seemingly burst its main storage tank . Looking online I'm struggling to find a replacement, does this usually render the boiler dead? Understandably this is a huge expense and total boiler replacement is not covered on the...

    Old water heater? Pipe identification

In our spare bedroom there was a cupboard which had what I presume was a water heater. There's a circular water mark on the shelf where I presume it was sat and leaking. In the attic there is a water tank which must have fed into it. All this has been replaced with a gas boiler in the kitchen...

Retrofit trickle vent - worth it?

Noticed today that I had wet beading at the bottom of the window in the bedroom. Presumably condensation that's dripped down. I have tilt turn windows and was thinking of retro fitting a trickle vent. Is it worth it? Any recommendations on ones to use?

    Cupboard above bulkhead - removable?

We have a cupboard in the small bedroom above the bulkhead of the stairs. I want to remove this as it's clearly been where an old boiler has been and the entire cupboard is grotty. I presume this is not load bearing and I'm free to continue ripping it out?

    15mm hep2o to radiator

Hi all, I have some exposed 15mm copper pipework running from the ceiling down the porch wall to a radiator on the other side. This has a soldered 90degree join which is leaking. I'm planning on removing this copper pipe and burying some 15mm hep2o within the stud wall and then bringing it...

    Cracked floor under UPVC door

Having removed the carpet by the front door I've found the floor cracked underneath the upvc door. I presume this has occurred when the door has been fitted and the bolts have been screwed down. I have removed all the broken floor and want to repair this. The floor in the house is concrete...

    Upvc door finishing trim

Around the front UPVC door there is an internal trim which has gotten abused a fair bit. I'm currently redecorating the whole porch and want to remove this trim to replace it with fresh. It has been placed over the old paper. It appears to be glued to the Upvc frame, what can I use to remove...

    Asbestos under bitumen?

Been removing gripper rods in our porch due to replacement of the carpet. The flooring is concrete with a bitumen top layer. On a number of the grippers they had been nailed into the floor. Upon removal this brought up areas of the solid bitumen. What I did notice was there's a 'fibrous'...

    Moving optima compact alarm

Recently moved into a new house and the alarm box is in a really unattractive location. I'm wanting to move this out of the way but still keep it as it remains fully operational. I have the code, and I've had it go into tamper which I can cancel with the same code. I also have the engineers...

    Outdoor light - safe zones

Hi all, Our house has a light attached outside of the porch at the front. This appears to have been spurred into a fused socket and then cables have been run in conduit around the outside of the walls. It looks terrible. For a start, is this acceptable to run an external light from a socket...
