    Cheers Glassman, thats exactly what the problem is with the doors, its in plastic casing as well. The only problem is that I dont think the wax will have the same effect on MDF... will it?

    This might get a little confusing but i'll try and explain.. I have a cupboard that I have made myself with two doors that overlap when they slide. The problem I have is that they do not slide smoothly as they are just wood sliding against the plastic tracking. What would be the best solution...

    Thanks for the reply. Yeah thats kind of what I meant, just without the actual brass bit in the middle! So just the edge of the plate, strange request I know.

    First of all, sorry about the unfunny thread name! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a little dilemma, it is kind of electrical based. I've cut some holes in some MDF which are around 3 1/2' x 2 1/2' and I wanted to create a plush kind of finish around them using metal sockets...

    Just an update for everyone who helped. I actually decided to go with some clear matt varnish as I had already painted the wood and couldn't find any clear oil based satin. It seems to have the effect I want after a few coats, just hope it doesnt yellow to quickly. Thanks again for everyones...

    Sorry.. another quick question. I have already painted the MDF and was wondering if I would be able to pick up a clear oil based satin paint just to paint over the exisiting paint? Again, thanks.

    Oh right, I understand. But what would be the best thing to paint in order to get the kind of surface im looking for i.e the shiny protection effect. If that makes any sense at all. Thanks again for your help.

    Yeah, I'm definetley not going to varnish it as I know it will discolour. Do you think the spray thats in my original post would do the trick then? I'm just looking to kind of protect the paint job.

    Its going to be indoors, its just going to be used as a shelf for putting my PC keyboard on and I dont want any movement leaving marks in it. I've used an water-based satin paint which says its suitable for interior wood and metals. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    I dont know if anyone could help but this looks like a good place to start. Basically i've painted some MDF but am looking to seal the paint so that when I use the wood it wont scratch any paint off or anything. I know that I can varnish it but I am looking for something that wont make it too...
