First off you need to streamline your startup procedure. goto start > run > and type "msconfig" ,goto the startup tab and uncheck what you dont require running as a startup process, if your unsure dont uncheck. Next grab a copy of hijackthis from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html...

Hmmm another doltish question im afraid, gonna get the reds connected no probs, what is the best way to discern which is the switched live? and which is the neutral as there is no red tape on the cables. I have a multimeter. cheers

Hi again sparky, Ahh i think i see what your saying here, so the reds should not actually be connected to anything but to each other, one of the blacks is the switched live (presumably i can use a continuity test to find which one is the switched live, the other black simply the neutral...

plus the light fitting on light 1had 3 black (connected together) 3 reds( connected together and an earth. However light 2 had 2 red connected together, yet in the connector block for the 2 blacks and the earth it seems as though the blacks and the earth were all in seperate non-connected...

I did but unfortunatly my wife shredded all the paperwork so im a bit in the dark (excuse the pun). It sort of makes sense, the 3 core is a link wire i rekon and the black and red is a switched live?. as for the light fittings, no idea :(

basically switch1 had a double on which controlled both lights, and switch 2 was a single switch however only controlled light 2. What i have now is a clean slate i suppose. I just want to close up switch one, and use switch 2 with a double switch to control both lights.
