EV Charger install alongside old CU

Hi Folks, Hopefully moving into an old Grade II listed house this year. Currently at the planning/budgeting/despairing stage! The house will need a full rewire. We don't want to do this until we've figured out what we want/need in terms of kitchen, bathrooms, heating, etc. etc. It currently has...

    Structural Correction of old roof

Hi folks, We're hopefully going to be completing on a purchase and move to a big old Grade 2 listed house sometime this year. We've had a very extensive heritage survey completed (which was better than expected!) and one of the major issues it has highlighted is for one of the roofs on a...

Grade II Listed - what needs LBC?

I suspect I know the answer to this but wanted to ask anyway... Looking at buying a house that is Grade II listed. As with many, the listing doesn't really give much away as to what is considered integral to the listing and architectural value of the place. I'm struggling to find some guidance...

    Recommended OpenTherm 'stat for Intergas

I've got an Intergas Xclusive 36, currently controlled by a Hive wireless stat and Intergas weather compensation. Considering upgrading to an OT compatible thermostat. It would need to be wireless both in communication and power (i.e. the room thermostat needs to run off batteries - it would be...

    Macdee dual flush AFV400100 weeping

Hi All, Been trying to track down an ever increasing water bill, looking for leaks, dripping taps, etc. and think I've finally found the culprit. The Macdee dual flush valve in our bathroom appears to be letting water by after it closes. If i press either of the two buttons, the valve opens...

External sodium floodlights - weird circuit issue

Some time ago I posted asking for help with our external lighting circuit (see thread here https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/external-lights-floods-bulkhead-circuit-issues.531240/ ) Long story short, I've replaced the 3 sodium floodlights and all lamps, checked the circuit and fuses, and it is...

    Secure/sturdy/thermally efficient door recommendations?

Hi all, We've noticed our kitchen door out to the garden (typical UPVC job) isn't closing/sealing as well as it should. I can see in one corner there is a gap between the frame seal and the door itself. The hinges have been adjusted quite a bit historically to counter this but there's no...

    Intergas Xclusive 36 - repeating status 1

Hi All, Since I discovered I can turn the display of the boiler on so it shows what it's up to all the time, I've noticed that now we are moving back into cooler days and it's being used on the odd occasion, it shows a status of 1 quite a lot. In the attached image you can see the set temp is...

    Grass over-seeding suggestions

Hi all, We had our entire lawn re-turfed a couple of years ago to level it all and get rid of the widespread moss, weeds, old tree roots, etc. No idea if it was a good or bad job but we’ve been left with a lawn that is patchy at best. Most of it has a very, very fine grass that doesn’t grow and...

How to adjust heating line params- Intergas Xclusive

Now the weather is changing, it feels like I need to adjust the heating line parameters for weather comp on our Intergas Xclusive. Where the hell are the settings?! I can’t see anything in either standard menu or installer menu. In fact the manual doesn’t mention anything about how to adjust...

Intergas Xclusive 36 - Clicking noise on DHW

Hi All, Our ~6 month old Intergas Xclusive 36 has developed a loud clicking noise after the DHW fires and for 20-30 seconds after. It sounds a lot like a relay clicking, or a very loud expansion of something. Sound appears to be coming from top left as looking at the cover. The boiler is...

    What watt for security flood?

Going to put some new PIR floods around the house. Given most are now LED, I’m struggling to figure out what wattage I want/need. Pretty sure 500w would be a good starting point in old money - this is for a single flood over a garden patio for example. I want something bright enough to really...

very slow heating leak somewhere (split off from other thread)

Sorry to jump on your thread, op, however I’m beginning to wonder if I’m in a similar position. I’m pretty sure I have a very slow leak somewhere on the system (not the boiler which is less than 6months old.) However, I also have floorings that would be difficult to lift. I was wondering if...

Which dimmer switch for LED bulbs?

I've got matching MK switches and sockets virtually all round the house now. Just decorated the kids' bedrooms and hit a slight snag. I've replaced the old 60w tungsten bulbs with new 100w equivalent LED lights (Dial ones, from B&Q -...

Recommend me some wet pressure gauges

With our fancy new boiler, there is no analogue pressure gauge and the only way to check the pressure of the system is to turn the boiler to standby (i.e. DHW & CH off) which is a faff. I've done a quick bit of Googling but can't find what I think I want - 15mm pressure gauge that can be...

2-core external grade cable, white - recommendations?

I'm after some 2-core lightweight cable to connect up an external temperature sensor for weather compensation on a boiler. Can anyone point me to something lightweight that comes in white, whilst also being suitable for external use (i.e. fixed to the outside brickwork of a house.) Ta muchly.

    Balancing radiators - specific question

I'm re-balancing our system after fitting new radiators across most of the house... One of the existing rad's, which hasn't been replaced (and won't be for some time due to access issues and the fact its only a couple of years old anyway) I'm struggling to balance. No matter what I do, I can't...

    Replacements for Metal Halide floodlights?

Hi, I've got some exterior floodlights like this https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLFL70H.html What/where can I find to replace of a similar spec'? I'm guessing its all moved to LED lights but not sure what I'm looking for. Is there anything that can deliver a similar warm, soft glow like...

External lights - floods & bulkhead, circuit issues

Hi All, With our current house we inherited what appears to be a very well designed & installed electric system. The previous owners had invested in a full re-wire and whoever actually did it for them did a very neat and tidy job in my (amateur) eyes. Everything is clearly labelled, circuits...

    Oversizing radiators - how much?

I've read lots on here about oversizing radiators so the system can run at a lower temp and keep the boiler condensing more of the time. Is there a rough target factor for oversizing? (I'm guessing it probably depends on fuller heat calc's but a rough rule of thumb would be good.)
